I like 96 up the middle with the double backers. I ran 108 last year in my Warrior and didn't loose any even with the poor snow conditons. I'm going to run 96 in my RTX this year

it depend on your riding style and the quality of the trail conditions...I E amount of good quality snow or "snirt" with rocks etc. near the surface...not to mention the rail crossings etc.

IMHO

there's a world of difference between the deep wide trails of Canada and the more destructive trails in our lower peninsula..therefore a guy could run 96 up in Ontario where I would never get away with that here..apples to apples same machine and riding style..

My setup

I have been using Extreme Max for the last three sleds. I have 2200 miles on these...the track still looks new. No Pull thur, none bent. This is my first year using the tall nuts....in the past I've had a couple bend but overall I've been happy.

Hi guys. for years i used all kinds of studs and backers with mixed results. 3 years ago i went with woody mega bits 1.4 in my apex 1.25 track with fastrac double angled plastic backers and i put coated washers on first then the nut. This set up worked great for me. the studs wore great with no problems. the washers prevented the nuts from digging into the backer and can be re tightened or changed with ease. my 02cents worth.

Any imput on whether its worth the extra $ for stainless steal studs? plastic, aluminum, or steal backers?

I prefer the clean look that SS offers down the road...actually it wears (the host material a little faster due to the fact SS is softer (contains less carbon)..so it's a trade off longevity against no rusting..

as to the backers I've bent aluminum and cracked the best of plastic..

if you long stud and use a tall nut,run a good pattern, torque properly, align backer properly, cut the wrong size hole (yes some get it wrong) and suffiecient number for the given power you will like the less weight of plastic...

of course...you should do the same with a aluminum backer as well....

Steel is way to heavy and I've only used on a ice picked machine..

2007 APEX GT - 1.25 Ripsaw - what length stud?

Need recommendation on stud length, maximum penetration without compromising heat exchanger clearance. I'd rather have a bit less penetration, as long as I have less potential bending, and adequate heat exchanger clearance.

I'm thinking 120 Woody's gold diggers, but I don't know what length to go with. Informed opinions please. TIA

in my opinion for less chance of pulling through and bending...the taller the lug...the more needed...all concidering the horsepower..

to me for a high perf sled...a min of 1 per h.p.

add a taller track..1.25 per h.p.

for me...I will be maxing out at over 200 studs..

1.45's in the woodys..1.52's in the extremes are the same length and they shouldnt hit..

although...I dont have a rear heat exchanger......but what I did was shim the tunnel protectors..

Do not want to mod the tunnel for studding

I do not want to deal with shimming tunnel protectors and all of that. I've done it before and it's more work than I'm willing to commit to.

Woody's Gold Diggers, or Signature Series - I'm going to try 120 up the middle, I'm assuming 121" track on an APEX GT, I don't know, I haven't got it yet. Just wondering what length stud I can run without modification to tunnel protection, or doing anything else underneath but studding the track.

Round vs. Square Backers

I've used them both, in plastic and aluminum. I don't see that big of a difference in terms of durability, but you don't notice when the round ones spin in the track, if the stud loosens up. If you're anal retentive about installation and placement, you might like to have things squared off on the track, so they are all equal. It kind of bugs me, but not that much. Other than that, I don't see a benefit, unless you want color.

if you will only run 120 or so..
I'd stick with 1.325 woodys or 1.400 extremes...

to me thats way understudding the power of the machine and the horsepower
