2014 Viper RTX SE (sold)
For a first year sled I figure this Viper has been pretty good. But-as we know they all have their issues. As I/we assume...somebody from Yamaha has to read this forum...I'd be surprised if they didn't. So...feel free to add to the list what we think the issues that need to be addressed (or are deemed worthy) or updated in the form of a service bulletin/recall on the Viper. Also, make sure you complete to survey on the Viper that Mr.Sled posted as a sticky on the top of the Viper thread. The survey should be a big help to us Viper owners...

-Reverse actuator (Yamaha stepped up...done)
-Belt (inconsistent rpms, acceleration and top speed)
-ECU Update (cold/warm hard start issues)
-Muffler (blowing apart)
-low RPM
-P1338 code

I have had

Reverse actuator motor go out (after detent update installed) (fixed by them)
thumb warmer fail (fixed buy them)
left light on dash pod does not always light up ( tap it on the left side a few times and then comes on)
Limiter straps are torn almost clear through (from factory they are installed upside down, catching on the shock bolt, IMO)( being fixed by me)
Leaky fluid - anti freeze 2 loose clamps (fixed by me)
Code P1338 & P1339 1 time (no action taken)

Good list. Only thing I will add is somehow along the way from 2012 Procross to our Vipers the rear suspension got messed up. I would like to see that better at least on RTX Se.

Rear suspension calibration is really bad for a average sized rider IMO on my RTX SE .

Clutch calibration seems off compared to my past Yamaha, hitting the Rev limiter on the bottom end

Coolant leaks from the factory are unacceptable

A real windshield option from the factory would be nice regardless of model you choose

Ditch the torx screws, why not just a nice allenhead??

My sway bar is cutting into my body plastic, seems like bs.

Ditch the tri hub

Love the sled, these are the things I have to address but for what we pay for these things I don't think I should have to IMO.

Put a drain plug on the chain case! Ridiculous setup there..and also make a removeable plate to take off under the oil tank and chaincase to be able to drain fluid out..and like cannondale said, suspension is all messed up. I've drove a few earlier year procross cats and they ride beautiful. The viper suspension needs some serious attention. My middle shock blew out at 2000 miles. Sent it to get rebuild and the guy said it's the most messed up shock he has seen!

Get rid of the sheet metal screws and get smaller diameter grips

Oh X billion on the grips why in the world are they so fat?

I agree for us little guys they are way too fat my hands hurt after a long day. And lots of blisters that I have never had. I have to see marge and soak in Palmolive!

Hmm, no issues with the grips.

Same here, I've never heard of grips being too fat. On my sport wheeler I wrap the handlebars with tape before I put the grips on to make the grips feel fatter. I guess I do notice thinner grips when I ride dad's apex but I would never want my viper grips to be thinner.

Thicker grips promote arm pump faster. And make your hands cramp up easier. All the Mx bikes have the same diameter grips. To me it makes the sled feel bigger too. It's just another ding to the fit and finish issue.

RX-SE rear shock valving not for me. No hard start or reverse issues but unsettling to read about so many. Tightened all clamps I could get to but now at 1200 miles I have a small leak somewhere, not a good feeling. Also lots of underhood noises, clutching I believe but possible exhaust. Latest concern is the muffler issues, and I only have a one year warranty. If my exhaust needs to be replaced at 2000 miles I will be extremely unhappy. TorX screws are low quality and a pain. Porsche also uses them but the screws themselves are much higher quality.
