Test Pilots/guinea pig letter to Yamaha...

That's just my experience, I had slides wearing very hard and that caused my low speeds. There are a lot of guys that are having minor issues coming from the clutches not being setup properly. In 1600 miles I'm amazed you've only seen 82 mph unless the snow conditions have always been poor. If you are happy with the sled how it is now that's great but believe me, there is much more power and speed to be had than just 82 mph, even if it is the xtx, like u said it may not be a tripple digit sled, but it is most definitely a 95mph sled!

Do you think that some of the issues are dealer prep related? A good dealer would go through the whole sled and make sure that everything is up to snuff. Others might just slap the sled together and get it out the door and collect their money.

That is certainly a possibility, I personally was at my dealer and watched the sled being setup and nothing special was done. It was put together, bolts were tightened up, loaded it on my trailer took it home and started riding and never touched a thing. I'd say it's more of a factory issue than a dealer issue. Sure you're dealer could take the time to check every bolt and clamp but IMO that is all on the factory there.

Spend $5000 on a turbo or trade it in and spend $3500 to get a new 800 two stroke that will do 97mph our of the box? Thats a tough question!

After reading about all the different problems that Viper owners have mentioned in this blog, I think the Letter should be to Arctic Cat and not Yamaha. With the exception of low top end speeds(and I think that has to do with a different exhaust system) these are all problems related to Arctic Cat, and the way they build sleds. Guess I'll stick with my Apex SE. Four years and no problems, except slow leaking Mega shock.

I put just shy of 1600 on my XTX this season and once I adjusted it to my riding style I loved every mile. But with that being said a top end speed of 82mph is absolutely ridiculous. I can live with the stutter starts but this sled is a dog. If wasn't so comfortab to ride it would be headed down the road.[/quot

Hey, it looks like we are neighbors.

Left Handwarmer quit working - Yamaha fixed 3/10/14

Bad muffler, blew apart - Yamaha fixed 3/3/14

Edited from previous - while at the dealer, Yamaha put in my reverse update 3/10/14

No other issues except the 8JP vs. 8DN whch I did my own clutching and testing.

***** What I am seeing is how many posts that Yamaha is taking care of them like me....which is great! But feel for the ones where Yamaha hasn't. *****

Don't like the throttle or brake handle and need to make the belt guard removable, fix the detuned motor an fix the cha in case problems, overall like the sled.

Detuned motor? What do you mean by that? My viper made 136.7hp at only 100 miles on the sled. That's as good as any average nytro.

I'd be down for that if there was snow.

For sure next year, or never know we might get a last blizzard? :-o
