So I am thinking about changing my track out on my 09 Nytro RTX and possibly extending it to a 128. I need some input from everyone on what track to go with and if the 128 extension would be worth it or not. I am on the fence between the Ripsaw 2 1.25 or the Cobra 1.3. I currently have the stock 1.25 Ripsaw 1. I ride in Michigan both the lower and Upper around 90% trail and the other 10% open fields, ditches, and hills and what not. I donot run studs and with the trails here they are mostly loose snow in the corners, groomed and flat or whooped out. In the end I'm hopping to gain more out of the corner traction and better hook up with whole shot. The ripsaw 1 performs well in the morning part of the ride when the trails have set up over night but as the day goes on the soften up and the traction droops off when accelerateing. I've had ripsaw on my two previous 2 stroke sleds and it worked well but the Nytro has a lot more torque. Thanks in advance for the help and input.
If you're not going to run studs I'd do a 1.5" Intense or 1.75" Backcountry. Not sure you can get those in 128. Have you considered 136?
If you want to go 128, do the star relocate.

I thought about a a 136 for a minute but i really like corner to corner and I had a chance to ride one this weekend and it felt a bit long. As for the relocate I thought about that last year but I really don't want to move the skid back at all as I case more bumps than I can count and don't want to leave any more space between the front and rear suspension. I also thought about a 1.5 but didn't think it was needed riding trails all the time. I've only got stuck once so far and it wasn't for lack of trying. My thoughts on the 128 was that all the new sleds are going that way so I thought their must be some advantage.

I swopped tracks this summer and put in an Ice Attack XT (pre studded). I would love to give you a raving review but I have only put 60km on it due the weather.
I wanted to get away from studs so the track would be a little loose in the corners. Will have to get back to you to let you know if it meets expectations.

1.5 is awesome on trail, not overkill at all, especially on a shorty.
I highly recommend switching it to a 128" and do the star suspension relocate. It's the best thing you can do to a shorty Nytro as it makes the sled handle way flatter. I did it last year and wish I did it sooner. Yamaha should have done this when they built it, people would not bitch about the horrible handling charastics if they had of....its just a great handling sled now.
Not sure what track you should go with but the ripsaw 2 is supposed to be a great all around track.

When I started this topic I was dead set against the relocate. But the more I look at my sled from the side and a XRS from the side the doo has the skid set back about what the locat would do for the Nytro. Don't think that might be the way to go. I am worried about less transfer and mort steering pressure. Did you experience any of that with the relocate when you did it?
Star Relocate is a great upgrade! I have a 128" RipSaw2 track with 153 studs I could sell if you are looking for a track. Track only has about 800 miles on it. I'm riding more and more off trail so want to extend but for trail riding this is really a great track and with the studs hooks up great and awesome in icy conditions.

Thanks for the offer. I would take you up on it but I'm not going to run studs. I think the star kit might be the way to go. Do I need to do a revalve or can I just get the kit, install it and adjust from there?
Revalve is not necessary unless you are not happy with current behavior of the shocks. I had Hygear revalve mine so they weren't so harsh. What I really thought helped the Nytro out was a new front end. I switched to a ZBroz front end. Coupled with the Star relocate really helped this sled corner much flatter. If you are going to change tracks you really should consider a 136". My riding partner rides a 136 and I can't tell the difference on the trail as far as handling but his sled definitely hooks up better than mine and is better off trail.

I don't notice the steering to be any heavier than prior to the relocate. I run C&A skis and to me it feels the same. You do lose some transfer, but I can still yank the skis, just not as much. But the flat handeling is a far better trade off . I like being able to go into a corner and not having to worry about too much transfer and having proper ski bite is a joy.

I did the tracks USA 128 extention and am running an ice ripper xt track. Sounds like I ride about the same way you do we just get a little more ice in NY i'd say. In hind sight I wish I had done the relocate its suppose to help with trenching and cuts the approach angle down on the skid. better approach should help with whoops and cut down on hyfax wear at the bend. I didn't loose any top speed with the extention though probably because the ice ripper is a single ply track so it weights the same as the stocker i took off. 2000+ miles on the extentioin and track and i have no complaints
Does the 128 hook up noticeably better than the 121? I'd like to add a full hindle kit but seems like a waste of money right now with the ripsaw and soft trails. If I spin now I can only imagine bI don't notice the steering to be any heavier than prior to the relocate. I run C&A skis and to me it feels the same. 128" relocate with an Ice Attack pre studded track. Best setup by far for the trail. You pay more for the pre studded but the extra traction without being over aggressive is ideal for trail riding. The relocate puts the approach angle were it should have been from the factory and has absolutely no negative effects for a trail sled.

Here is my .02 I did the 128 Tracks USA with the ripsaw II. I have 600 miles on it so far this year and love it. It helped the handling big time. It hooks better then it did but I also am able to full throttle out of corners now that I put new drivers on as well as the stock spun. I like you, do not want studs either. Bottom line I love it.
