Well, I'm seriously thinking of trying the Doo 1200 4 stroke this year.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Nytro but am always looking to try new things. The thing is, if I trade my Nytro for a doo and I hate the doo, I'll miss my Nytro.
I do some trail riding but really enjoy ripping up the local fields with fresh snow. There's nothing but open fields where I live.
So I guess what I'm trying to ask is.....
Have any NYTRO owners ever had the chance to ride the 1200 Doo?
How do you compare the 2?
Thanx for any input.

I just purchased my XTX at the end of the season and have not rode it yet. I came off a attack and rode a GSX 1200 SE. All I can say is it didnt scream buy me and the fit and finish is not Yamaha. I was pretty open to other brands when replacing my attack but the Yamaha 4 strokes are just hard to beat and the resale is strong. The 1200 was brand new so break in will be different but it was not the response I was used too. Price was not the issue (alittle more then the xtx) I was just not impressed. Everybody is different for sure ~ just my 2 cents....

I think you would be very happy with the 1200. I own a 06 Apex and a 09 1200 X pkg. My wife has a 08 Nytro and a 2011 1200 X pkg gade on order. My 1200 is the best sled I have ever owned. I hope my wife likes her 1200 Gade or she will have a new 2012 Yamaha on order next year.

Hey jds, how do you compare the stiffness of the suspension between the nytro and the x package doo? Which do you think is stiffer?

The 08 Nytro is setup for my wife. Everything is on the softest settings. Before I set her sled on soft I found the rear would bottom on big dips yet ride harsh on the stutters. I'm sure I would have found the right settings for me but since it was her sled I set it up for her. The 1200 on the other hand rode and handled great right from the dealer. I weigh 225 lbs and have the rear springs on the second setting out of five. I never bottom my 1200 out and the ride is very complient. I don't know how to explain it but the Doo chassis and suspension just plain works. The Yamahas just take so much more work to get them to ride and handle and still fall short of the Doo.

I agree, I say go for it. From everything I've heard and read, its going to handle better and probably ride better...and be close to the same speed.
Its worth a try. In a couple years you'll probably want to try something else again.
I don't think you are really upgrading machines if you do go with the 1200. I think it is more of a lateral move. You could probably add some things to the Nytro rather than taking the trade in loss for the doo and make the sleds pretty comparable.
Question would be why the 1200 Doo? I would go more Apex or the 800 Etec if you want power.

800 etec renegade would probably be the most fun you would have ripping up the fields and fresh powder...I didn't want to be the first one to say it
What are you trying to gain with a new sled?

Oh I agree, just the motor will be shot within 3-5000 miles.... You decide...

I agree. If you keep a doo short term you do fine, but if you put on high miles the engines don't hold up. I'd say for normal wear and tear yamaha and doo are similar they both have their minor issues but you have to decide between weight and engine reliability. I got sick of pulling motors out of Revs and it looks a lot harder in a XP.
I think the 1200 is a great option but the Nytro is better for my style of riding. 1200 seems better compared to an Apex in my opinion.

The 1200 would be more like the 2010 Vector LTX GT. The Apex blows the 1200 away.

A lot of people get more than 5,000 miles on a two stroke ski doo 800. But yes, I get your point. I think we all agree on this subject.
I'd still like to know what the OP is trying to gain from switching to a 1200 doo. Probably would be happier with a supercharged/turbo nytro that has a 2" track and wide skis. Set it up for full weight transfer... and then you'd have a off-trail sled. Take the tunnel protectors out to stop the icing...
