I have my 06 Apex GT and need to replace track after 10000 miles. I want to add some more track to the ground. ( going fromm 144 studs to Ice ripper XT) . Have been thinking 128 all summer but cost is only the tunnel extension differnce to go 136- so would I be happy with this?
New Apex's are 128, is that best for a 90%+ trail rider or what advatage would there be going 136?
I suspect slightly smoother, float slightly better, min decrease in top end per reports - if any. Possibly slight push but was thinking Muffin works 6 degree tip up.
Experience? What do you think? Is there a reason Yamaha went 128?
Thanks Yamadoo

If you like to play hard, the extra traction you'll have either way is going to make any existing tendency to ratchet worse? Might be a good idea to add extro's as part of your project (like the new Apex as well)? Jus thinkin...

when the track is done on the gt, my question is 136 or 144. similar price. at this point, I figure they need to be long. its not a phazer

I'd go 136" if i were you. Going from 121" to 128" will be hardly noticeable IMO, and not really be worth the effort to extend everything. That, and track choices are less available.
If you are going to extend, go to 136" and never look back (maybe even 144" if you play off trail at all!).....
The 7.5" rail and tunnel extension to 136" won't be anymore to purchase than the 3.5" extensions to 128" would be, and the benefits will be better (hook up, bridging bumps, etc.) than a 3.5" extension....
I suspect Yamaha went to 128" as a happy medium. They realized they needed better hook up that 121" provided with all of that power and 128" was a happy medium. 128" seems to be the "new" 121" anyways now days, as sort of the shortest sled out there.
I also doubt the 128" really pushes much worse than the 121." People who have ridden both say the 136" version doesn't really push much more than the 121" version. Your choice, but if your going to bother to extend, I'd go at least to 136"
Now Doc, I expect to see this thing soon this winter up there by Island Lake and get togehter and do some riding!!!!!!!!

I am with you super sled / Mike. I am thinking 136 and tip up rails the more I think about it, very little down side.
Can't wait for snow.

I looked at a stretch for my '06 GT, and ended up going with an XTX skid, and really like the results. For the cost of extensions and a track, it wasnt much more to go that route, and that was when the XTX was first introduced. I'm sure there are plenty of skids out there now cheaper than what I had to give for mine.

A 128 gives you 1 more lug on the ground, a 136 gives you 3 more lugs on the ground.

136 or 144 forget 128 just not enough. 128 Yams new 2011 shortie. 121 does not hook up well & Yam probably went 128 in 2011 to try to reduce some weight added by EPS. I like the idea of 128 Apex but don't like loosing 136 option.
