Anybody had the cover around the handlebar riser off yet? Tried to get mine off today to check the coolant, and the 2 screws the manual says to remove only spin. Won't back out or tighten up. Called the dealer, and their techs have 2 more days off. Anybody got any ideas what these screws attach to? Is there supposed to be nuts on the bottom, because I don't feel anything under there. Trying to be extra careful and not scratch up the chrome finish.

Its a brass insert into plastic. The insert is turning. IF you have an air ratchet or impact you can put a driver in you can get them out. Then use penatrating grade loctite to get those inserts locked into the plastic. Good Luck ===SRXSRULE===

Good idea on the repair, but do you NEED to get it off. I have had the handlebar riser and all of the body work off without having to remove the collar and scratch it up. (and yes, mine was stripped from the dealer too)

My ER did the same on the brake side (cheap plastic)

This is correct. you don't need to remove it. I've had all the body panels off and have never removed the collar. For the record though - one of my collar screws spins also.
