TY Build - A response to Yamaha's 2013 line-up.

I hear you on the over the tunnel exhaust design, seems like the best setup for a ditchbanger(not a touring sled).Another idea would be like redline had on there four-stroke, just the mufflers in the rear hanging like a crotch rocket. If the new apex is any indication where yamaha is going the next exhaust system will be still a rear exit design, but much more compact and more centered.Dont want to lose the benefits of this setup=less heat under the hood which means longer belt life, more efficient exhaust track which means more power, better sound, better setup for a turbo, less noise for the rider, and when in deep snow you don,t have your exhaust being choked. If yamaha didn,t have this setup patented it would be on the competition sleds long ago.

I was just about to write the exact same thing. It keeps the weight in the rear and the heat out of the engine compartment. I actually feel my sled is better balanced when the rear is packed with ice. It pounces flat instead of acting like a lawn dart. I've learned to use saddle bags and the nose compartment to compensate for the lack of storage. Cat and Poo have battled with extreme engine heat on their strokers.

Another good point about the rear exhaust.I remember reading in snowtech when the RX-1 was released that the team working on the RX-1 discovered adding weight to the rear of the sled made it handle better. You would never think that but i can remember riding my 98 indy500 sled finding it would handle better if i keep my weight more to the rear.Very strange.

I ride in rough ditches and fly over road approaches. I don't get much ice buildup. Pretty much a non issue for me.

I can understand no big changes from Yamaha for '13, but some refinements/improvements are always welcome.

How about improvements in suspension and steering linkage bushings?

On the topic of the rear exhaust, no one has mentioned the dreaded exhaust gasket replacement, some type of improvement here would be welcome??

2x that, what about those new tuner ski's, why spend the $ to make the
old ones.

i have 0 ZERO ice buildup problems on my 09 rtx se with a 136ext. yamaha with the exauhst out the back is great. you can hear all the yiiip and noise of the 2 smokers and not care much. and then a 4stroke just sounds way better and more distinctive. you cant please everyone but yamaha made a huge step going all 4-stroke way back when.

why does everyone hate the rear exhaust? its the same concept on the liter road bikes, nearly ALL of them have this exhaust setup for a reason.. IT WORKS.

it sounds better than a side dump or tunnel dump even IMO (look at the turbo cat, or abrams tank i should say judging by the sound) and it takes a turbo for them to get 177hp out of their engine at 1100CC..

yamaha is refining an already great lineup in my book. sure id love to see a new chassis, but the current lineup flat out works DAMN GOOD

This is to much fun... The 1100cc is 1056 and makes 123 hp at 8500 rpm. The Yammie Nytro 1000 are a 1049cc engine and makes 130+ hp at ??? rpms. So the big advance is 10cc and we call it a 1100 ;-)

Any one who knows anything about engines knows that you getting more revs from a 3 cyl then from a 2 cyl engine and therefor more hp. Just look at Formula one before cylinder limitations, they used 10 or 12 cylinders to get more revs and therefor more hp. So the advantage for Yamaha on the Apex vs Cats 2 cylinder engine are 4 cylinders against 2 cylinders.

So I understand Cats strategy of making the 2 cyl turbo (never going to buy one but I understand it) to make an lightweight 4-stroke but then you have to let go of something.

About the ice-building in Nytro and Phazer in cold snow conditions it is just ridiculous. So I can understand people who has complaints on that. But if you never experienced that you could never understand 80 lbs of ice sticking to your front and back.

So IMO I think Yamaha should come up with a kit so ppl who drives in cold powder snow could fix that issue. But this thread was about what you think Yamaha should change (in a positive way) my tip to Yamaha

VK 540 is dead:
When do you come up with a new one, TS-suspension, more narrow, the engine from phazer with maybe 60 hp or something. A cooler in the front so you get zero ice build up (If you could drive Yamaha R1 in California with cooler in front you should be able to do that on a sled). Nice workhorse instead of USS Nimitz.

About USS Nimitz
EPS, Yamaha, EPS. That sled would be the baddest hauler in universe if you got EPS on it. And a winch. You got new boggi on it with less attack angle (very good job Yammie).

For the MTX sleds:
Turbo, everyone who uses them as a Back country or high mountain is getting aftermarket kits on them anyway.

Kiddy sleds
Great job with the SRX120, but (and yes Yamaha I know its bad times for the economy) where is the good old SnoScoot 80 cc and the big brother 125 cc. The kids grow up and they need something blue.

The other sleds:
I dont care! Sell them to flat landers who thinks Nytro MTX is the baddest mountain sled right out of the box.

Phazer with both tunnel holes closed and exhaust above tunnel has absolutely no ice buildup in tunnel. That is the fix if a rear mounted exhaust is needed. The balance front to back of the Phazer is just about perfect also. Now if using a Nytro motor in this sled build it would mean the fuel tank would have to go under the seat to get the balance the Phazer has. That makes it very hard to run the exhaust between the seat and tunnel.I would give up rear exhaust to get that balance.Or run the exhaust through the running board like coolant used to!
Next would be ride hieght and center of gravity. We need the same travel with lower sleds.Z.P.S. Zero Preload Suspension. These type of suspensions have been proven to work in quads, rally cars and offroad trucks.Basicly get the sled as low as a SRX and it will handle. But keep all the travel for the big bumps.

I installed a rear heat exchanger and a block off plate around the muffler and the only ice I get now is around the LH stud protector bars. No more big ice chunks coming off and making a LOUD banging sound under my seat. Very Happy with my rear exhaust on my Nytro XTX and the magnaflow muffler I installed in the orginal place sounds AWESOME.

So poo has an $8 k 120 hp sit down trail sled that they will sell a ton of. The new Indy.

Doo has a 600 ACE for $8 k that they already sell tons of.

All I want from Yammy is an 80-100 hp sit down trail sled for $8 k warm, comfy trail suspension, lighter then Vector.

In other words NOT a dirt bike with skis aka phazer.

Yammie can't build this sled because ???????

The Venture lite, but doesn't come in at 8k. Of coarse
it isn't made from a coors can with a motor out of
a weed eater either.

A 120hp $8000.00 msrp sled from Yamaha would sell like hot cakes. You will never see it though I believe. I am inches away from ordering an Indy 600 for my wife. Snow check is $7500.00 with a four year warranty. That's hard to ignore. The dealer I may go with has an awesome reputation. Your sled breaks he gives you a rental until yours is fixed. Free of charge. That cannot be beat.

Vector06 that's a sweet deal. I would jump on that! If I didn't like my RS Venture GT so much I would consider it. I'm on a mission to put 40,000 miles on mine throughout the years of ownership. My last sled was 17 years old before I bought this one! LOL!!!
