Typical MPG on tow vehicle?

Hmm, I do suspect my 97 F350 does weigh less even with the Camper Special package. The tires are 285-75-16 and gearing is 3.73 Not sure of the overdrive gears. Very basic motor easy to work on 188,000 miles on the old truck. I try to keep it clean and serviced though. Can't afford a 75K truck lol

nobody really builds an aerodynamic sled trailer. 7 wide is better than 8.5 wide but the V nose doesn't really help. Somebody need to build something like Peter Brock is building (he designed the Cobra Daytona) www.aerovaultinfo.net He's got it down, no internal framing for roof, entire underside is skinned for less drag, rounded front etc. Its a car trailer though so its overbuilt for sleds. try towing your trailer empty versus loaded bet your MPG doesn't change much esp. on 2-3 place trailers.

IDK......I hear mixed reviews of (turbo) diesels as far as mileage goes.
I do believe most of the hype when tuned.

Maybe I'll start researching tuner for 6.0 gasser.

Dont waste your $$$ on a tuner for a gasser unless your turbo or supercharged, tuners work well on diesels cause the fuel is rich, combined with increased compression from the turbo and increased pump pressure from the tuner makes the injectors mist fuel for better atomization, thus increasing efficiency, that will never happen with gasoline

Just think of a tune for a n/a viper vs turboed sidewinder

We can agree the outcome wouldn't be the same as a turbo application. Not even close.
Guy claims 24h/p on blackbear tune. Needs 91 octane, which increases the mpg but at the same time fuel cost goes up $1. a gallon.

my truck will, I have it flashed for more power and pulling. It makes a difference for me. I cant say it will in a normal stock truck but I know for sure ethanol will not help the mileage. If you read up on that flex fuel, the economy drops substantially and to me the offset in price is not worth the drop in mileage.
Here’s what I have found with ethanol, if you run the e-85 you will drop mileage, but if you blend it 50/50 you will not lose any mileage.
What gets me is why they don’t do this and make a e-45 and have the best of both worlds?
Guess that would make to much sense.

They don’t do it because it’s not true. E-45 will absolutely net you lower mileage than straight gasoline.
Merry Christmas everybody :)

What I was trying to say was if you blend it with regular, you will not take the hit to your mileage, I always get the same as with straight regular, but you save $ on the e-85 that you blend with it.
Have done it for years with the same results, know other friends that do the same with the same results. Straight e-85 I loose 10% mileage which takes away most of you savings of the ethanol, but blend it 50/50 and it will be right where the straight gas mileage is.

The one Big benifit I see with ethanol is, every gallon we use is one less gallon we have to buy from the Arab countries. Don’t give them our $ so they can buy weapons to fight us with?

You will lose much much more than 10% mileage on straight E85. More like 25%. There really is no possible way that at a 50/50 mix your mileage didn’t drop at least 10% with a properly running engine, and that’s being conservative.

..............personally I've always wanted a TDI Toaureg as a tow vehicle or ML Diesel. comfort great handling good MPG and all the power you'd ever need. have a client with a Porsche SUV diesel (same as Touareg) and he broke 30 mpg from Boston to Buffal0 running 73.

Exactly why I bought my 2012 MB GL350. Rides excellent, great MPG, and power up the A$$. Rated to pull 7500lbs. Below is my fuel mileage on every fill up since I purchased it. Keep in mind I have done almost 0 towing with it so all mileage is city and highway unloaded.

16 chevy Silverado 1500 3.08 gears 5.3 motor with cylinder deactivation. My truck unloaded turns 1550 rpm at 72 I have seen as high as 23 on a steady 200 mile run. typicaly 21-22 in warm weather drops 1-2 in winter. towing a 2 place clam shell around 13-14 with cruise set at 70. Last trip I started fooling with tow haul mode . Without that engaged the truck tend to stay in overdrive but stays in v8 mode and can feel it lug a bit as the cruise opens the throttle up but it will stay at 1500ish rpm. With tow haul engaged it drops out of overdrive more and the rpms come up to maybe 1900 BUT when it does that it will frequently run on just 4 cyl. so I'm not sure whats better letting it rev more and drop out 4 cyl or keeping the revs down and in v8 mode. typically you would think less rpm is better but with this truck being able to drop off cylinders I'm not sure......

my old 25'x6' enclosed trailer would net me that milage in towhaul all day with 3 sleds in trailer and one in the box of the truck as well. you want to use tow haul as it raises the pressure on the clutches in your tranny whitch helps them last longer. the rev up is better for the engine than the lugging for sure.

Ok.....well I just drove 65-70mph and got a solid 9mpg.

It is what it is.

I will fill up with 91 and see if it makes any difference.
