Ulmer Kit on Snow - Any Experience Yet?

I put 15 mile on the GT stock, 10 after the stage 2 kit. I was impressed with it stock but the clutch kit is worth every dollar. The hole shot is nothing short of impressive, and it just keeps pulling. The rolling wot will require a good grip on the bars. This was with 6" of snow and 168 studs. I had very good traction and the suspension left stock. The testing was done against my sons 04 800 ho rev.

I rode 80 miles stock last week and 40 miles today with the stage 2. There's no doubt about it, it's faster. Engagement is a little higher, though I don't really care so I didn't pay too much attention as to what it was. I'd say it was 3400-3500 stock and now is maybe just under 4000. It pulled hard in the midrange before but now it pulls harder and doesn't stop. It was fairly narrow where I rode today and it runs next to a canal so I didn't do any top end runs but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. When I was able to look down @ wot it was always between 10,200 and 10,500. It's just right there whenever you nail it. It was very impressive and a little scary and I'm hard to get excited. I've been around fast vehicles all my life but I'm impressed with this sled and with the difference Ulmer's kit made.

What Snowbelt said. I ran 500' - 600' wot runs, stock it would only pull 9000 - 9300 rpm's. The kit installed it went right to 10,200 and really pulled. Stock the ho would lead me by 1 -2 sled lengths at 500', after the kit I could get him off the line and pull away. I got so excited on one run that I let off late and nearly went into the woods. You just want to let it keep pulling. I have had clutch kits on sleds for 20 years, this was the best bolt on and go I have ever used. I look forward to a long run against the 800 ho, but my son and I both know what is going to happen. I still have a 04 800 ho of my own but it has a 1" track with 168 studs. The 800 my son has is a X with a 1 1/4" with 120 studs. I thought it was a better run for the GT.

Thats good news snowbelt, looks like you are catching us on your milage lol i am have withdrawels have not been near my sled in a week, keep us posted. ;)!

I am surprised the HO beat you out of the hole even at it being stock and the GT stock. I would have thought the GT would have taken the HO in stock forum or does the HO have a clutch kit in it too. Also, you had way more studs then the HO. You should of beat it out of the hole, with the amount of studs you had compared to your sons' 120. I would of like to see it in a hard packed environment and not in 6" of snow. You could of been spinning alot and the stock 1.25 DOO tracks are good for powder, but not as good as the RipSaw on hard packed.

Sounds good. I knew Ulmers stuff would run well. Allen and his father are first rate people. Allen thanks for the hard work on the clutching.

Rotax: Oh I forgot to mention that his 800 ho has a pipe, can, clutch kit, geared down 2 teeth on top, he weights 50 lbs. less and has had 2 years worth of fine tuning. I was not disapointed in the results before the Ulmer kit. Heck in a short run I was glad to be with in a couple of lenghts. My 800 ho is set up very close but runs a different clutch kit, mine has better top end and his has better upshift. And when we went back to the start line I had dug a trench for 30 - 40 feet further than the doo. I think hardpack will be fun. LOL.

I have been testing Ulmers setup in my Attak, and ran thru the radar Saturday at 116.7 mph. The other GT's that were there were running short lug tracks, and some were geared and clutched. They were running thru the radar at 116-121mph.

I called Allen after playing on the lake, and told him the good news. His kits work, period!

Will be trying a new helix combo soon for Allen.

Matt, sorry,

Forgot to add, that my track is a 136", 162 pics, along with clutching. Keeping up with the shorties, with the short lug tracks, and gearing/clutching is a major improvement.

Attak is 136 inch, so it should be slower.

Also, for you guys with reverse, 2 identical sleds ran thru the radar, and there was a very minimal difference. We are talking less than a mph.

So what size lugs were on the GT's. Did you have a stock sled there to compare against?

Hi terry, thanks for the info, its nice to see some others out on a good hard surface running top speed,to find some same results that i have been posting for some time now,and that most people did not believe, now you did indicate that some GTs had small tracks,by saying this do you mean 9830s or smaller lug heights,if so how did the stock 121s w/the ripsaws run?? I imagine around 117 or so? either way 117-121 for even a shorty is so sweet, this is almost srx territory at least well running ones,on ice that is,now one more question, how far did you run and what was top rpm held to w/allens kit. Oh ya what did your dreamometer say when you ran thru at 116+ 132 or so??? :exc: ;)!

what does your last line about 2 identical sleds being close to the same mean? Did one have reverse and one not?

Also what size lug tracks were guys running?

thanks Dirk
