It looks as if it doesn't have a stamp or is visibly altered, the Law Enforcement officer can already say it doesn't pass & doesn't need to be db tested. He would have to know what a stock Sidewinder muffler looks like & would have to take the shield off to figure out the pipe is 1/2'' bigger.
Yes, Mr OCD, this was my point. Without a visible stamp how could they determine if it was stock? Hell i can't tell if it's stock or a replica and i look at these things on this site every 15 minutes! Thanks Beerman!

ultimately you can choose to do whatever you want. I went 2 years passing multiple wardens without being pulled over. I even rode with a warden to help them locate a crash, and nothing was mentioned on my exhaust.
All i was trying to do is point out that the original post stating decible testing was in accurate.
If you pull up to a check point and it sounds odd, loud, different, its just a reason for them to look
Because this change took place last year im sure wardens were not up to speed on how to identify and enforce.
If they take a simple pic with your registration number visible and your can visible its gonna be pretty easy to enforce

That's to bad, sometimes they can be rough around the edges sorta speak. Can you or anyone elaborite on this emblem or sticker that each stock muffler is to have on it? I missed this story at the time it happened to you, what part of the state were you in,at time of warden encounter? In post 140 i explained i was pulled over by a main warden.
To elaborate on it.
My buddy was out of gas, i had to tow him out of a little windy trail and at the end of the trail the warden was parked in his truck doing a visual inspection for registration stickers.
He stopped our group and stated my muffler was too loud (ulmer quiet can on a viper) i stated that it was loud because i was dragging another sled behind me. I stated listen to it now. Its not loud. I even said it was decible tested.
He said open the side panel so i can see the muffler.
I did and he looked and wrote me up. He stated the the law had changed, but did not elaborate on it.
I said i didnt know it changed, he then said its my responsibility to be aware of and follow the law.
I gave up at that point. Lol

So my tune will not run correctly with a all stock muffler,i may have to buy another new stock muffler, and send it out to whoever mods the guts,so I can at least keep my tune up to its ideal running quality.

The only visible marking on the stock muffler is the "S.S.C.C. Arctic Cat" stamping on the exterior heat shield. So that's what they're looking for. If you have one of the 3 modified stock mufflers and the top heat shield in place, there's no way they can tell if you have a modified muffler. And the sound of the TD mod stock was within a couple dB of the actual stock. I'm convinced you'll be safe anywhere with that one. March 9, 2017. Confirmed. THANK YOU RTX for the clarification. When it happened to me, it took me a lot of digging to actually find the law.
I was going to fight it because the warden never tested it.
Once i found the law i quit
I will look for it again and post it if i find it

Is that heat shield you speak of one of two sides that are riveted to the muffler? Ya,i was just on babbitts and took a look at the 17 muffler,it shows no tag,but can be had complete for $350.00 new,how much would the TD mod cost? The only visible marking on the stock muffler is the "S.S.C.C. Yep, that one. So . . . If you took a muffler with a reasonable noise level, like the TD SQ and bolted the heat shield with the S.S.C.C. stamp around it, which all of us presumably have lying around anyway, it should pass the visual inspection. I've seen pics of people that have done this with the TD SQ and the SanDale 2.5" and 3" versions, it might work with others of similar size. A word of caution from Ben - don't reuse the insulation from the stock muffler on an aftermarket muffler that uses packing as the extra heat can burn it out.Is that heat shield you speak of one of two sides that are riveted to the muffler? Dumb ? Does TD mod my stock muffler or they ship a new modded muffler and I keep the stocker? Most of my riding is in Caribou area so would rather avoid the headache.
Went to the TD site, they need your core. Told you it was dumb question

I Here you and thanks for pointing that out. It is some useful information for sure! We all know that when it comes to exhaust it's always been a potential issue. I just didn't know that they could write you up solely on a visual inspection.

millinocket coming out of one of the intown trails that run between stacyville road and jerry pond.
The warden was waiting at jerry pond and pulling over every sled that went through looking for registration stickers mostly, but i was not the only person there to recieve a ticket.
There were others.
I believe the sscc stamp is what they are looking for.
If i was a muffler manufacturer i would just have sscc plates made up and weld them to the mufflers. Lol

So from what I hear now,i may be able to get by with a sandale 3" if I can find a shield with the SSCC stamped into it. So how do we find these shields lol I guess I need one.Yep, that one. So . . .
