upper gear bushing

Just home from Hearst area , 1200 km , 2020 SRX 3600 KM , came out of gear , towed to Cochrane , both gears, shift fork pads , on our way. Two days later 2018 Sidewinder, 6000 km , same both gears , Both drilled , 1 1/2 chain case tension. one Yamaha oil , one Amsoil.
DEALER IN COCHRANE ONT , BOURQUE'S EXCELLENT SERVICE , HIGHLY RECOMENDED, SAYS DOING 3-4 PER WEEK !!!!

They started with mine back in january!! Rodney said he would keep them on hand from then on. Glad he did! Top notch fellas there at Bourque's

Yeah, that's why you replace it every year or every 2000 miles. this is a know problem and well documented here. Dunno why guys keep bitching about these things not holding up and aren't prepared to deal with it. So again....yes it sucks, but why not be proactive and maintain it so you don't get stranded?

Every 2000miles is absolutely ridiculous... So every trip i should be tearing my chaincase apart and throwing out my top gear?

If you're only getting 2000 miles, something else is wrong. Check your alignment, bottom gear to top gear. I bet its offset. Shim top gear out so they are aligned.

I have never had a failure on multiple sleds with many thousands of miles running stock shim on inside and on stock on outside of upper gear.
One had 17000 miles on it
The bottom gear can be installed wrong.
I run an aftermarket gear and both sets are 15 wide.
For the price and no worry I figure it’s a value

nothing should be made in China
Most parts are that come on these

LOL

that's where our was repaired 2 weeks ago, although we tested a bushing that was machined (we believe it was oilite), unfortunately it did not last (from Cochrane to north bay, quit with 10kms left). Mechanic was very nice and helpful... We called him back to thanks them and let them know it did not last, not blaming them, we had to try it

no matter the mileage you have when rolling high speeds for long periods, that is where the gear wears out...

Oilite is sintered bronze and has a low load handling capability. Wrong type of material to use here.

Over fill the chain case also.

I should have chosen my words more wisely. I think you should at least inspect it every year or 2000 miles. I have only replaced 1 in over 4000 miles thus far and this year's inspection revealed a perfect bushing with no signs of wear, on a 3 oil hole top gear I had put in last year.

They also have Brass Shifting forks to replace the stock plastic ones

I hate sound like a dink but if you are going on a trip, and you know about the upper gear bushing situation, and you DONT open your chaincase the week before to inspect, then its on you at this point. Hoping it doesn't happen will not work. It sucks but that is where we are at with these things.
don't worry,

I am willing to bet if you had a brand new gear and did the same trails that gear would not last. I really believe that high speeds for long periods wears the gear.

the best thing to do is have a spare gear with you, since most of the dealers are always short on stock. seems that all the dealers up north is the major repair they do almost everyday.

We now carry tools and both gears , and shift fork pads and oil , in our group of 6 Sidewinders , SUCKS YAMAHA/ ARTIC CAT , WTF

This is much harder than oilite, not quit as hard as some iron powder bushings but twice the load capacity of oilite. It’s a sand to fit on the shaft so you can get it nice and tight. This is what I’m trying out. I only have about 300 miles this year because of arm surgery but I think it will hold up much better than the stock bushing.
Price is right too!

Do you have another bushing you could recommend?
I think the AA-1110-1 oil lite bushing is good for 2000 psi load on spec sheet.
I have no expertise in this field.......just tryingvto get through a season without a gear change.......average 4000 miles a season
