upper gear bushing

What diameter hole did you drill and at what location on the bushing. I plan on ordering the one from McMaster. Thanks

Well after 1700 miles I have checked my replacement upper gear bushing. Looks and fits as new. I am satisfied and will return it to service and check again at the beginning of next year.

Thanks Stain. I am going to give this a try next. Just installed my third upper gear now with 4500 miles on sled. Had a lower chaincase seal start leaking and found my upper gear bushing shot again. This one had 2500 miles on it. The bushing in the stock gear actually spun inside the gear and the oil holes no longer lined up. All this is on a box stock sidewinder. My Arctic Cat experience has not been a fun one.

how were you able to only buy one. I get a min buy of $20. Hrmmm. Do I need that many? And mine were only $2.88?

I made an order of 4 different bushings to try. I think my order came in a @$45.

I just ordered two from local BDI Canada distributor. No need for a minimum order if you are lucky enough to have a distributor near by

So we did 2200kms trip up northen ontario (hearst that area)

2 sidewinders let go with 5,000kms
1 - a 2019 xtx (twice replace, once at 5,000 and the second was around 5,000 as well)
2- a 2020 ltx gt (no hole in the bushing)

Just took mine apart (2020 xtx le 4,800kms) my bushing is done lucky it did not happen during the trip...
My bushing has holes in it, did not make a difference

Changed my chaincase oil at 700kms with klotz added 16oz
Also change at 2,500kms prior to trip

We roll fast with our machines for long periods, every time the gears let go its when we are rolling fast for long periods...

Its a huge pain in the #*$&@ if you know we are approaching the 5,000kms and need to change it, trust me when you are up north and breakdown it adds up quickly for towing.

Just home from Hearst area , 1200 km , 2020 SRX 3600 KM , came out of gear , towed to Cochrane , both gears, shift fork pads , on our way. Two days later 2018 Sidewinder, 6000 km , same both gears , Both drilled , 1 1/2 chain case tension. one Yamaha oil , one Amsoil.
DEALER IN COCHRANE ONT , BOURQUE'S EXCELLENT SERVICE , HIGHLY RECOMENDED, SAYS DOING 3-4 PER WEEK !!!!

Yeah, that's why you replace it every year or every 2000 miles. this is a know problem and well documented here. Dunno why guys keep bitching about these things not holding up and aren't prepared to deal with it. So again....yes it sucks, but why not be proactive and maintain it so you don't get stranded?

I hate sound like a dink but if you are going on a trip, and you know about the upper gear bushing situation, and you DONT open your chaincase the week before to inspect, then its on you at this point. Hoping it doesn't happen will not work. It sucks but that is where we are at with these things.
