My 07 Nytro developed the clutch rattle as well over the weekend. Seems to be only just before clutch engagement.

its the different "pulse" of the three cylinder compared to that of the 4 that causes the rattle at idle in the three holer.<<<this is what I have heard also because the clutch is same as the 4cyl and it has no rattle..I'm gonna do what Tork said with o-rings probally today.Tfin said:From what I understand its the different "pulse" of the three cylinder compared to that of the 4 that causes the rattle at idle in the three holer.
Some people have had great results with the shim kit...others havent. I have no explaination for that though.

It is just before engagement; I think I made about the same noise just before my engagement; anyway... I found some nyla washers as well as some ruber ones that would be the right size I think. Any pros or cons to either....I'm wondering how long they will last or which will last longer. Anybody done this and how long ago??? Anything I should know about taking it apart??? Thanks

Blow the dust out of the clutch every time you are servicing your sled
it won't hurt any thing and clean is always beter .

I ended up using Tork's idea, O rings. Noise gone.

I put 0 rings (thin little rubber ones) between bolt head and hole and nut and hole. It worked.[/quote]
Do you have any pics? Not sure what bolts you're talking about.

We are taking about the bolts that hold the rollers in place on the primary clutch. Sorry, I didnt take any pics. You cant see the O ring when installed. They just remove the play in the roller pin.

Last night I picked up some rubber o rings and installed them on the clutch bolts to reduce the clutch noise as per advice given here.
I'm not that mechanically inclined so I have a couple of questions. Firstly, why do these bolts have play in them? When I installed the rubber o rings and tightened down the nuts the are now tight and do not move at all. Is this a problem? Do they have to remain loose for proper clutch function?

Thats kinda what I was wondering also...by tightening this up with the o-rings in it now does not allow the inner bushing to spin freely..could this present a future problem?

Having no play will not hurt anything. The pins that the bolts go through are held in place by set screws. Take a close look and you will see one set screw on each side of the pin.

Bob, the set screws are on the weights. There is no set screws on the rollers. I dont see a problem with the O rings and no free movement in pin for the rollers. They have bushings in them just like the weights and they lock the pins for the weights.
I think if they did use the set screws, we would not be talking about this now because there wouldnt be any extra noise that these pins create.

Well I did clean and lubes all the rollers and pins with lockease with graphite and rollers are spinning freely so I guess thats the biggest thing that they are spinning good!

Do you have to remove the clutch to do this?
