My dealer sold me 10w30. The manual calls for 0w30. What do you guys think? How big of a pain is it to change the filter?

Get the correct oil. I also heard that some of the Yamalube is not for high revving engines. Go with the 4CW stuff. I heard the filter is easier to get at than an RX1.

Oil & Filter Change is a piece of cake!
1/Remove lower inspection cover (5) 6mm allen bolts.
Filter and crankcase drain are right there.

2/Remove right side cover and drain oil tank.

3/ Reinstall drain plugs and filter.

4/ Re-fill oil tank, start and check for leaks.

5/ Re-install access panel and side cover.

6/ Top off to full mark

7/ Beverage time!

The Tech at my dealer first pour half a liter of oil directly in the engine then the oil tank.

Apparently the pump will need a little while to charge as the intake will empty out during the purge.

I changed the oil in both my RS Vectors a few weeks ago and it was quite easy. A friend helped me had he has a sled lift so that made it a lot easier. Follow Phantom's list and you should have no problems. One comment: It might be confusing as to which small bolt needs to be removed to drain the small amount of oil in the oil pan. Shine a light on the bolts and you'll see one has a copper washer. This is the one you remove.

Concerning the oil, definately go with the 0W30. I put Amsoil synthetic in my sleds. If you're a believer in synthetics, go for it. My sled haven't burned a drop but, of course, they are new.

My dealer said oil in tank only. :?
Filter is pretty easy to get to, but you may find the filter is on tight.
I had one dealer tell me tank only, on my 2010 Rs Vector I had another say crankcase too.
Now I'm confused the kit came with THREE copper washers.( one with a part # & 2 in a plain baggie)Is it because the kit covers several models & years ? Yet the side of the box lists a specific Pt # for the oil drain gasket, but it's the same for every make & year (07 - 15) Why the 3 gaskets ??? Asked the dealer I trust the most (the tank only guy) about the crankcase & he said no ! Asked him again about adding oil to the top of the engine & said no. REALLY don't wanna take off all the plastic to get to the motor head if I don't have to. This is really becoming a confusing boggle, almost afraid to do it myself. But the dealer wants 90/hr labor ..... and he's 2.5 hrs from here....PLEASE help !!! Maybe I should have stayed with 2 strokes ?

Drain the tank and the bottom of the motor and install a new filter. You will atleast 2 copper gaskets. One for the bottom of the motor and one for the oil tank.
Refill the motor with oil only thru the oil tank. Pour in 3l and then run the motor for a minute or two. Top up oil tank as needed.

Stupid reply I'm sure.. my kit came with qts - not L. So add 3 qts then top off after looking for leaks ? Manual calls for total of 3.5 qts total with filter change.

What kind of oil filter wrench do you use ? I bought a swivel type 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch and WAY too small. Some guys have said that this the only type to use - as there is no room for a cup type ???

Slip joint pliers work well for me.
Tx for your suggestion. But with my big Manly grip I'd be afraid to collapse the filter. I'd rather an actual oil filter wrench. The shadow on the pkg of the 2 1/4 to 2 1/2" wrench says it'll fit but it's wayyyy toooo small.Guess the next step is 2 1/2 to 3 but I feared it wouldn't grip tight enough.

Who cares if you crush the filter. Hell I've punched a screwdriver thru filters before to get them off.

I have an adjustable filter wrench that I can sneak on & still have crushed a couple that I musta got too tight when putting on.
