So I'm reading through the forum Dan started about "CAT DNA STRIKES AGAIN" regarding the failed chain tensioner, and I'm wondering if its the vibration of the chain as it rolls on the tensioner? If this is the case, is that good or bad?
Or,
Track tension. Was at dealer yesterday buying scratchers, and was talking about the vibration. He asked about my track tension (thinking my track might be too tight). I said I know when I bought it, the dealer said the track will loosen up over time, so they had it a little on the tight side, to allow for the stretch. I'm assuming they do this to all their sleds, so it wouldn't be a tension issue.
So ya, the tensioner.....

My left side foot board vibration has been confirmed. Bearings were in very bad shape. Having them replaced and trying to get one more ride in next week. Vibration had been progressive and isolated to the left side.

Double check your tri-hub as well. The bearing on that went on me this year. Felt that same left foot vibration at certain speeds and when I clamped on the brake.. When it went, lost the track as well (2 foot slice). Ended up with a $1600.00 bill. I replaced the left jack shaft bearing while it was apart. It was dry as a bone and going quickly. I had 5000 miles on all original LTX SE.

The bearing that was causing the vibration was behind the primary clutch. It was on the edge of complete failure. I was having the chain-case serviced as well and figured check and replace if necessary all of the other bearings. I installed the 4-wheel kit a long time ago.Which bearings?
Had the skid out over the fall and replaced all of the wheels. Found two wheels that would probably not have made it thru the season.
I am very lucky to have an awesome shop available. I don't use them because they are cheap. I use them because they have one of the best Yamaha mechanics I have ever met. I have gone to some cheaper locations and for routine issues and most times its not a problem. But when I described my vibration to most shops they put it off as "snow conditions" or "all vipers do that" or "check your belt".
When I called Roger's they wanted more info and put me on with the head mechanic and ruled out snow, belt and the ridiculous notion that all vipers do it.
I have some mechanical skills but not good enough to tackle the bearings and the chain case when my sleds are 10 hours away.
I guess my advice would be to find the issue and have it fixed. If you can't do it yourself find some one who can. 100 mph on a sled that might fail because of something that could have been fixed is not safe.

Ok so you have ridden it and confirmed it’s fixed? Was it bearing behind primary or secondary? The bearing behind primary normally lasts forever. One behind secondary is always a issue and needs annual maintenance for sure. So which was it? Also anyone including you who has a sled right in front of them has a advantage in finding a issue over us guys guessing of of your description on internet. I have been chasing a vibration in my left foot well as well. The bearing in the caliper bracket seemed fine, so i greased and left it alone in the fall.
My noise is only on decel, worse going down hill, or deep snow. And real bad when on the brake. But as soon as i am back on the throttle the noise is gone.
I tried track tension, and noticed that at tighter then recommended it was better. I tried track alignment and it didnt help.
I have the upgraded tri hub in my 15, and never thought to look there. It spun fine when i had the skid out in the fall...so i guess i will have to have a better look there.
If i find anything else, and fix the noise in the fall i will respond here, we lost all our local snow due to milder then normal temps.

The pto bearing behind the primary usually will produce 20,000 km with no issues. Some have failed a bit earlier based on reading on this site.
If you have a shop press with some plates its very doable to pull the assembly and press the bearing out.
I replaced mine at 15,000 km on my nitro. It hadn’t failed but was dried right out. Would be interesting how long it would have run. Was planning to keep the sled 4 more winters that’s why i pulled it.

Seems like I may have hit a nerve with my post. That was not my intention. I was only trying to emphasize how easy it is some times to over-look a problem that could leave you stranded. Keep digging until you find the issue, get it fixed and enjoy the ride.

Holy Cow wasnt expecting that bearing to be a issue especially at such low miles. Glad someone found it.

I had a vibration issue on my 7000 El Tigre but in a different way. When slowing into a corner or to a stop it felt like the track was rubbing on something.
I found the right float 3 shock was out of air so I pumped it up and the problem went away? I brought it to my dealer and they fixed the shock leak but could not find anywhere that the track was rubbing or had an explanation as to why this would happen even with low shock pressure. They seemed to think there was ice build up under the tunnel so when I let off on the throttle and engine would brake causing everything to shift forward and rub on the ice build up. It only happen the one day of a three day trip and has not happened since? Sorry not the same issue as posted but thought I would share in case others have this problem.

that is similar to the way mine feels, i still havent had a chance to pull it all apart. Race season is ramping up and i had to make the switch from sleds to motorcycles quite quickly lol
