Thanks I did NOT know that I just ordered the Viper tool and have yet to install.If you ever change your mind remember the tools are different diameters for the Vector & the Viper........not interchangeable.......

I have seen some of those aluminum ones with stripped threads. Make sure to put some grease or anti seize on there.
Mine pulled all of the threads like a slinky. The issue as I see it was that the length of the tip was too long so it took load while only a couple of threads were engaged. That and running dry did not help.
I bought mine from Ulmer. Allen promptly took care of me with a new one that is slightly different. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it will work well.

A 10 mm wrench makes a good belt removal tool. Just put it on one of the helix nuts and turn clockwise while pushing in. And you already have one in your tool kit.
You mean 12mm?

If this works why do they sell the tool?
Arnt you worried about twisting off bolt or stripping it?

Have one on my Apex and Viper and it works great, also had a belt tool on my 2001 SXR that was really sweet design that used a large thick washer that mounted on the clutch and they included a cam-action roller tool that you sliped over the washer between the helix and the washer and you would pivot the cam-roller to open the clutches then pivot the cam-roller to close the clutches. Kept the cam-roller stored on the sled. Wish that the company that made them was still around as at the time the tool only cost $38...anybody out there ever purchased this tool for their Yamaha and remember the company name???

Before I became "enlightened" and switched to Yamaha, I rode Polaris sleds. Their clutches had this type of tool built right in. There was a threaded tool that came in their standard tool kit; you just screwed it into the clutch and it seperated so you could remove the belt. When I bought a Yamaha, I wondered why Yamaha didn't do the same thing with their clutches? Now after trading in my 4 year old Vector with almost 6,000 miles and the original belt in great condition, I remember that I changed belts on the Polaris about every 1,000 miles. I guess that explains why it was so easy to change belts on my Polaris!

Doo has the same feature built into their secondary as well. Not much of a tool kit, but the tools that they do give you plus a spare belt attach nicely to the clutch cover which is also easily removed for access.

I have watched my Doo buddies change there belts with the built in tool on the secondary and the Doo-tools . Nothing fast or easy about that setup!
I'm sure glad I own a Yamaha
I think the next time the Doo buddies blow a belt( those 2015 doo 800's eat belts for lunch) we will have a contest! Pull up next to them and see how many times I can take the belt off and on the Yamaha in the time it takes them to change one belt on the Doo. This will be a gopro moment.

I have had Allen Ulmer's belt tool installed on my previous Apex and now on my daughters Viper. Of course running the 8DN belt, I have yet to need to use it on the trail. Just when cleaning clutches. Allen's tool is top notch!

I put Rich Motorsports belt change tool on both of my SR Vipers. Super glad I did when the starter blew on one it sure came in handy as well changing my belt out at 2600 miles. Two thumbs up!

Hi all, I am having trouble with my rich motorsports tool. It seems to be putting lots of pressure on the side of the clutch and the belt not loosening up. Am I turning it too far or am I misaligned? Any advice is appreciated.

You need to crank the key in quite a bit and it should start moving the clutch. I can't see how you could turn it to far without seeing the clutch move and I don't see how you could be misaligned. I have it on both of my Vipers and it works great!
