Want HOT hands?..It can be done!!! EDITED FIRST POST

If you have the 07 bar update on your 06 sled or an 07/08 sled with the new bars on and the grips still dont heat it is becuase the heat element has been damaged when the grip was slid over it at the factory. The damage causes to much resistance in the element that prohibits the grip warmer element to work properly. Resistance measured with an ohmeter should be between 2 to 3 ohms in each grip. Any more stops the heaters from working. I have an 07 apex that had junk bars on from the start so I know this for a fact. Yamaha warrantied my 07 bars and i ended up putting the 06 bars on in the end and man they work nice nice. Take your bars back to the dealer for warranty if the reistance is out of spec. Alot of the new 07 sleds had cold working grips due to being damaged when the grips were slid over the element. It doesnt matter if you have the 06 bars or 07 bars - if they are wired in parralell like the 07 sleds and the grips are good you will have awesome heat. Just my findings dealing with alot of people and having fixed their cold hands problem.

here's my custom made seal skinz that don't need handle bar warmer's.

Finally got warm hands. Used the 06 bars with the 07 sub wire harness. Started the sled and put the meter on first bar and within 2 minutes I could feel warmth. My other question and not that I will but I heard if you run the warmers up to half scale or further it can hurt the electrical system. Is this true. Now the grips are like my old SRX's and even my Vector. Thanks

Warm Grips

Hey Schroon- glad to hear you finally got your heated grips. Where were you able to get the '06 bars?
I don't think you will burn anything but your hands by running them on high.

What do you do to get warm hands on a 07 sled with 07 bars. Mine are pretty weak?

Install '06 bars using the '07 wiring harness and most importantly the sub harness which you should already have.

You dont need that subharness for the 07 sleds as yamaha has the wiring converted from the factory on the 07 sleds!!!!!!!!! You have bad grips on your 07 sled guaranteed. All that subharness is used for is to convert the 06 in series wiring to the new 07 in parallel wiring

There will probably be no service bulletin on the grips on the 07 and 08 sleds. If you have poor performing grips on the 07 and or 08 sleds take them back into your dealer to test resistance of the grips and power supply to the grips. If your dealer doesnt know how they shouldnt be a dealer in my opinion. Yamaha gives them all the info thru service manuals and training clinics for the mechanics. Yamaha is letting the dealers work with the customers on a one to one basis.

One last thing, If your grips on your 07 08 sleds are within resistance specs and have power being supplied to them and they do not get hot but only warm, it is my belief and opinion that the new style elements are having heat wicked away from them because of the new style element being glued to the bare metal bar and then having a rubber grip slid over the top of them. Yamaha gave what everybody thought was the problem and that is a new bar grip package. Find your self a good set of handlebar muffs if you want your hands to stay warmer. Yamaha doesnt state how warm their grips should get so they are turning away from this subject. Just my opinions.

King of the Lake, I sure hope you are right about the faulty 07 grips!! Both mine and my wifes 07 Attaks have weak grip warmers, and the handgaurds I just put on help, but not enough.

I'll check the resistance this coming weekend. 2-3 ohms eh?

Our grips do get warm, just not nearly hot enough for anything below about 10 F.

Doug, Your grips may be good but not very efficient for the reason I stated above. Foaming the inside of the bars may help. I have been thru this countless times. I put on the 06 bars on my 07 sleds and even converted the series wiring to parralell on my 06 vector gt. All my sleds have great heat with no related problems. If converting the wiring is going to be an issue, Yamaha would surely issue a bulletin to all USA and Canada dealers to protect themselves from warranty complaints.

Yep, the '06 bars on the '06 replacement bar wiring harness does the job. On mine the '06 pay warranty bars were not as good as the original OEM. With the OEM reinstalled using the replacement harness 1 to 2 bars of heat showing is all I need. Anything above that would definately fry my hands
