New York aggressive trail riding occasional lake run, just not sure if the Viper has enough top end for me from what I have seen and heard

With clutch mod, air box mod, and can NOS-PRO turned 109mph in the 1/4 mile at 11.11 seconds......Viper does not have to be slow. Barry jump in here.

If you're used to an rx1 for aggressive trails you won't know what to do with the trail capabilities of the viper..rx1 is no comparison to a viper. If you want speed out on a lake too you're best bet will be an rtx or ltx, xtx has potential to be fast but your dragging a longer track with more lug, that will slow you down. Like mentioned ^^ the sled responds well to intake and exhaust mods, matched up with clutching that works well for the added power and you'll have a sled that's much quicker and every bit as fast as an rx1, a much better ride and much more comfortable. Where in NY do you ride?

I agree, bolt ons and your ready to run! The Viper is bad #*$&@ in the trail and will leave that rx1 behind! So after a mile of trail you will need a two mile lake for the rx1 to catch up...lol...the Viper is not a lake racer and unless you put on a turbo or major mods it probably won't be, and won't be as fast as your rx1, but you need to ask yourself what you do and enjoy more. Cause if it's trail riding it's a no brainer...

Turbo the Viper and you will get the best of both worlds.

I am NOT bashing Yamaha by no means because they all do it but why don't these companies start doing some of the research and doing the add ons right at the factory so we don't have to do them afterwards they have a lot more bargaining power than we do, they probably can get $5000 worth of add-ons for like 1500 dollars . I don't have the 17 K to put on a sled like stud does and I'm sure I'm not the only one out here with this problem. To me a brand new slide that only does 85 miles an hour is unacceptable from the factory

The stock clutch setup from factory is what's limiting the speeds for some. As for performance parts being added at the factory, it'll never happen because of all the sound and emissions tests the machines need to pass

Have you seen the price of the Cat turbo models?
Don't get me wrong guys are obviously still buying them, but these things are getting spendy and people are choking on the prices. Some have an easier time breaking it up into smaller "bites"

If yamaha offered a sled comparable to the cat turbo I'd have had no problem spending the extra $2k on one. The 1100 turbo is an awesome machine for the fact that you can add 60+hp for under $300. No not everyone is looking for that kinda machine, but manufacturers would be surprised at how many of those kinda sleds would sell, no matter what brand. If u check prices you can get a leftover 1100 turbo for the same or less price than you can a viper. I personally think the viper retail prices are steap for what it is, don't get me wrong it's a sweet sled, but you don't get much for factory options and they come with a shock package that's tied for last place with arctic cat.

I agree the new sled prices especially the Viper is way overpriced. Even if the economy is doing well I don't get how sleds, bikes and especially vehicles are so overpriced, who the hell can afford a new $60,000 truck or eight $80,000 ski boat.

Clutch kit is not that expensive, and if you do it yourself you can make this scream for under 300 bucks. But yeah I was disappointed my 2014 M8 had perfect clutching and I had to find a fix for our Yamaha. BUT, to me alls well that ends well, at least I can trust my dealer to honor my warranty and I wont be replacing an engine like some other brands.
Stage 1 - by taking off the primary clutch cover (6 bolts) and put in a 4mm or 6mm shim (available at http://www.benderracing.com/Clutch_Shims_s/38412.htm or you can make one out of the last coil on an old spring). That gives you the big change. Approx. cost $0 to$10.00
Stage 2 - put shim from stage 1, green/white/green spring, and 8FS weights in. Approx. cost $195.00
Stage 3 - like NOS-PRO and mine are, stage 2 with MBRP can (others may work as well) and Airbox mod. If interested the airbox mod is explained here http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/air-box-mod.129365/ in detail. Stage 3 in my opinion is the way to go. (Fuel controller most likely will be needed depending on altitude, add another 300-350) approx. cost $460.00 - approx. cost with fuel controller $760.00 (Saw in another post Ulmer has low price fuel controller)

the Viper does seem to be a nice sled but it is a lot of money for the miles per hour you are getting without spending the extra bucks , Stud roes as far as the factory test I don't know how Harley gets away with their sound I think about that every morning when my neighbor leaves on his bike

Lol ya I'm not even gonna start with how I feel about Harley's..just one more way that stingrays feelings would get hurt they have patents on their sound somehow but there won't ever be any snowmobile brand lucky enough to get that. There's cheap mods and there's more expensive mods, by the sounds of it you're not going to be able to buy a totally stock viper and have it consistently run 100mph like the rx1..but also with the viper you won't have worn out bushings, exhaust donuts and boggie wheels like the rx1 will give you. The speed the viper lacks from the rx1 it more than gains in ride quality and chassis performance!
