Thats not very long. Damage may not be apparent long before it blows. Still hoping it was just a bad batch. Sorry for those that got the bad ones though. Embarrassed is actually a better description of what I and hopefully Yamaha feels. The starter gear issue and now this is not good.

You can add the leaking chain cases on top of it. Even if it's not developed by Yamaha, they still should deliver the same quality as before.Thats not very long. Ya but damn if I'd give them 1 cent.Just spoke to my dealer,
I have a late build '16 xtx le
Brand new 0 miles (didn't even get to register it yet)
Would trade it for an early build ltx le
For a grand....
What you guys think? Go for the early build proven motor???

When the motor with the 190hp kit was tested, they put it into a real stress test. They were running it at WOT for about a minute before it blew. Even if nobody rides at WOT for a minute, i still think the test is valid.
What I find of interest is MPI has to do the reliability testing for Yamaha that includes a very long wide open on the dyno test, something like 15 minutes? Anybody remember the exact amount (doesn't really matter though)
I am not doubting what you are saying Sunvang, just the reason why. MPI does not have an issue at 235hp but MCX blows at 190hp. Sounds like more to this than meets the eye.
Stingray MPI let out boxes that were tuned for way more boost than is recommended. That leaves them suspect in the "testing" department in my mind. We will undoubtedly find out what the results of this motor change are. But probably not by relying on any testing by Yamaha,MPI or anyone else. What I find of interest is MPI has to do the reliability testing for Yamaha that includes a very long wide open on the dyno test, something like 15 minutes? Call them and ask what torture testing was required and required for each additional model year, they will tell you. Ask why the plastic parts were moved from the turbo. The fact that dobec programmed a batch of controllers wrong and makes MPI testing invalid is like saying because Yamaha made a batch of SRX engines that had to be recalled and destroyed makes Yamaha a bad engine builder. Apples and oranges.
It does. Yamaha is ultimately responsible. That is why testing and repeatability from suppliers like MPI,do beck and whoever built rods is so important even if it means 100% checks. What this means is the system is broke and that is what should be embarrassing.Call them and ask what torture testing was required and required for each additional model year, they will tell you. I guess time will tell if all this is true, gereralized on all the new engines or just a bad batch of rods , there's no one out yet with a '16 turbo in North America?
Riding in real conditions... 6 degrees here today.... No snow in sight...
Thinking that I should turbo my lawn tractor!

I put 200 miles on my 2016 MPI turbo XTX in Colorado last week and have had no issues at all. Not that I expected any. Time will tell.

Awsome. I'm still waiting for good snow. We usually don't get out until the new year.
How did you like the machine.

I assume you were asking me. I loved it. Took a while to dial in the suspension as I have never had air shocks before. I had to deal with a bit of track slap on the tunnel (fixed by lowering skid to lower holes up front and middle ones on rear). I also unplugged my EABC module before I left and had to remove one idler wheel so it did not hit the evol canister.
Those issues I consider trivial as I picked up my sled with 0 miles on it, put it on a trailer and left. The machine rode great, I could make it carve in some of the fields, had tons of power and instant response from the throttle. We had about 5 feet of snow to ride it and they got a ton more when we left. The Tuner 3's worked very well on the groomed trails but when you got into a foot or so of loose snow they had a bunch of understeer. I was able to correct some of it by powering hard to the corner, letting off, using engine braking and then accelerating out.

I can't believe the track was slapping the tunnel. It must have been some loose.
You got me wishing for groomed trails!

I think that the xtx skid needs to be in the lower holes. Even when we made it super tight it still did it. The machine has tunnel protectors on it and that's what the track hits.

My ltx looks like it has miles of room.
