Just wondering which belt is best for the added HP from tunes? I ran the stock belt last year and had over 1000 trouble free miles but it was always in my mind after hearing stories. Now that I'm debating a muffler and tune I'd rather not run into belt issues and just have fun. I haven't gotten a belt adjuster yet is this item a almost necessity now with big hp tunes? I'm most likely going with the TD 265-270 powertrail tune depending on which muffler I choose. Thanks in advance waiting patiently for lots of snow here in Maine. Ride safe everyone

if you didn't have any issues in 100 miles last year, i doubt you will with tune since those issues happened relatively early on. I blew a belt at 400 then 1,400 miles

Ultimax xs-825
I have a couple stock belts, but also grabbed one of these Ultimax XS825 after talking with several that swore by them being tougher. I dont believe the stock 8jp is anything special as far as longevity, it was designed for a 135hp sled and Yam really seems to have dropped the ball when it comes to new items. Hard to believe they run same belt on a sled with 210hp stock.

Doo and cat come out with new belts to last longer on their highest HP sleds, I doubt Yam will ever come out with one, and so I will test others....Gates I already know work well but are not a long laster, likely a tad longer then stocker at least, and a very good performer.

Looking forward to testing with the Ultimax XS.

Seems as though the 8jp is holding it's own on the ramped up winders. For the most part.
Is the claim Ultamax XS825 is a heavier duty belt than the 8jp. If so, any concern with XS825 grooving the clutch face?

No need for a new belt to be designed. You shouldn't have an issue with the 8jp belt. Guys have been running big hp trail turbos with the 8dn belts for over a decade now. Those belts were probably designed for a mid 90s vmax 600. Between me and my buddies, we only ride the OEM belts, and a couple of guys run the gates carbon fiber for racing. Everything else doesnt last as long it seems. That being said, on a turned up sled, usually at around 1000 miles or less I find they start to lose a little performance, so thats when I change them.

I run stock 8jp on my sidewinder last year and on my turbo viper no issues and they perform great. I think the biggest problem is everyone wants to get 5000 miles on there belts and that's where this becomes an issue I change out my belts every 5-800 miles belts are cheap body panels are not. Also if your not clutched properly it wont matter what belt you run.

I don't want some special belt for the Winder like what Cat did for their turbo. I like I can get a stock Winder belt for under 100 bucks. I talked to a guy with a turbo Cat and he said the only difference between a 200 dollar belt and a 100 dollar belt is when you blow them the 200 dollar belt cost you twice as much to replace.

My thought exactly.

Have had many Yamaha’s which needed the 8DN belt, and after many K miles a groove forms on the belt engagement spot, very low on the sheaves. Never bothered, just apparent.

Have seen info on other threads saying that the softer compound 8jp should help mitigate that occurrence.

So that is where I shall stay until any other aftermarket belt proves the same.
