Rule of thumb, 1 stud per HP...BBY
If he didn't sell studs I might believe him :moon:

Seriously, one of the rags tested (one of the good one's) studs a few years back and used a zr900 as the test mule. They put it thru all the paces, thru all types of conditions and were very surprised at their own findings that 96 worked the best. The 96 studs were worn about the same as the higher numbered studded tracks. There were no pull outs and they achieved as good and some times better hook up with 96. They theorized that 96 hooked up better becuase they could penetrate better. Kinda like laying on a bed of thousands of nails.
Your top end will suffer less too with the less rotating mass :ORC

I agree with Mighty 96 down the middle @1.325 is all you need for typical trail riding, which will give you good handling and good acceleration. Now if you are going to snow drags, then put in 1.375 stud @144 to 168studs and stud the outside belt and if you can afford it change it to a 1" track and go with 144 to 168 with 1.175 in stud. I had a 120 in my REV 800 down the center and it was actually too much. You don't want to have too much bite on the track, because it will throw the balance out on the sled.

We had another thread almost exactly like this one (2 months ago?) where people claimed that 96 was enough. Then srxspec posted and said that even 120 was not enough for the apex. Allen works on sleds everyday and races and rides the trails. So now we have 2 heavy hitters Matt and Allen saying the same thing, and these guys know more than me (more than 90% of us actually)
I plan on studding mine in a couple of weeks and I know I will likely go more than 120 :D
