Need to buy larger idler wheels to save (hyfax) sliders. Are they any options besides excell and schmidt bros. Is one better than the other? What are you using? How many wheels do I need, I see they sell them in kits and individually?

I'm running 8 excel wheels. There are other options that will be cheaper...if you search you will find the wheel size (5.25" I think)...the cheapest solution will probably come with cheap bearings which you can run or upgrade to NTN purchased separately. Again searching you can find what others have used; polaris, kimpex, skidoo all come to mind. The excel aren't cheap but come with NTN bearing and are direct swaps. If you want to use the existing hardware you will want to ensure the bearing race is correct size (12.5mm I think...a search will confirm). If I recall, 6 wheels are stock and I added two which also required mounting hw.

I went to the polaris dealer and grabbed four of their idler wheels. I also put the "white" sliders on this year. This combo has shown little to no wear so far

nightfire, can you elaborate on "white" sliders, are these still just plastic with different melt and better wear??

I installed 6 ski doo wheels on mine...and all new rebuildable wheels on rest of skid...also new Dupont sliders. I had to slightly machine the inner front idler mounts to fit between rails as the ski doo wheel bearings are thicker than the oem Yamaha bearings. If I were to do it again I would go w the Excell Kit as they come w all the direct mounting hardware...and no machining of aluminum mounts to make fit

My yamaha dealer had the 135mm wheels on the shelf. An exact match to the stock 130mm wheels.

Since I installed the 135mm wheels and white sliders(made by kimpex) I have had no wear at all.

Put the duponts on and save the wheels for later if you need them. 400 miles on my duponts some on marginal snow and no wear at all. Last year I went through a set of stock sliders in 350 miles!! Also make sure your track is not to tight. Mine hangs 3/4 of an inch . The track clips run very cool and the sled rolls much easier with the duponts also!!

Over 1500 miles on my 1st set of duponts with stock wheels. Ice scratchers a must for the hard trails.

6 Excel wheels, same sliders for 5000 km's.

Excel 6 wheels. With 121" track I had 3700 miles and sliders still could probably go another 2000 miles. Now I have a 136" with backcountry 1.75 track . After 800 miles the slider are showing hardly any wear. Snow conditions have been some light and some fluff.

6 Excell wheel kit + DuPont sliders, no wear yet in 1200 miles.

Thanks everyone. I ordered the excell idlers. I just started with 4 Not the 6 wheel kit. I hope that's ok. Where do you get the white sliders at? Maybe dupont next year. And why does yamaha want the track so tight? 1.18 to 1.38 at 22 lbs. I'm thinking it should looser than that.
