OK so the measurement is to the outside of the fixed secondary sheave? If that is the case then yes that would be accurate and I see no change if you change your belt adjustment right?
No change to the offset if you change your belt deflection.....correct. Once your offset is set, it is set.
OK then if you are measuring from the stationary sheave on both clutches the belt deflection will NOT be effected. That is where my confusion was coming from. The offset should not change at all if you are measuring from fixed sheaves no matter what you do with the belt adjuster.
Yes, measuring from the fixed primary sheave (closest to engine) to the fixed secondary sheave (sheave closest to the left side panel). The belt adjuster will make it very easy to adjust the belt deflection **After** the offset distance has been finished. Problem is, if someone who is still stock will just put the secondary bolt back in with the same amount of washers **After** doing their offset distance and their belt will be very loose or very tight. It will not stay the same if they adjust the offset distance because of how Yamaha changed the belt adjustment from the 3 bolts on the back of the secondary (previous models) to the way the Sidewinder does it from the outside of the secondary shaft.
My theory is is members correct their offset distance, they just screwed up their belt deflection in the process.

If you guys are measuring to sheave nearest to left panel, what specs are you using?
Yamaha specs of .58-.61 are to inner sheave according to manual. This is with bolt tight and belt removed, as either will skew measurements.

Not sure what you mean Terry...
The fixed sheave is set to its offset distance by way of shims on Jshaft. Nothing will change that distance other then adding/removing shims on Jshaft. Belt height is a separate thing completely and is changed by moving the movable sheave in/out. Does not effect fixed sheave.

Here is the video I did few days ago....I removed the belt guard to get a better look at alignment. I have all this stuff in my build thread always.

Mine measures 61mm without the shim behind the secondary. I guess they all vary a little bit.

Thi
sorry disregardIt will, that is why the belt tension should be checked first and then make sure the offset distance is correct.
Someone needs to make a tool that goes from the primary sheave angle to the front of the secondaryView attachment 135759

Same as mine....It came factory with ONE shim at 62.1mm or so. And so I removed that shim, now I run 61mm right up against the circlip.Mine measures 61mm without the shim behind the secondary. I guess they all vary a little bit.

Correct Dan, but if someone who is still stock adds a shim to the back of the secondary on the jackshaft....there are so many washers on the main secondary bolt that when tight, it will push on the helix more causing a looser belt deflection. You need to add the same distance measured shim to the front on the main bolt as you add on the jackshaft.
