At a minimum I would like to see Yamaha issue a tech bulletin saying that all the intermediate gears have been pulled from inventory and either 100% inspected or replaced with a gear that has passed standards. Just for those of us who would want to be a bit proactive. For me the starter failures are not a biggie. Its the gear and parts in engine. Heck nobody has even received any acknowledgement that there is a issue. Thats really the BIG issue. No communication. Heck they still dont even have service manuals out. Dont get me wrong I still love my Yamahas but this episode is definitly going to be on my mind in future. It didnt have to be that way. A little communication goes a long way. Everyone messes up sometimes. If its talked about it is much better in almost all cases.

I would say from the poll numbers it looks like roughly 10% of vipers are gonna experience starter issues..

Gota update now that mine went out today 60 miles away from the truck and trailer on the trails up in Michigan... Plus the humility of being towed by a skidoo

Was making some light grinding noises this morning when I loaded from home but I just kind of ignored it and hoped for the best. Was fine all day until we decided to stop along the trail for a while went back to start it after 20minutes the sled kinda popped once like it was going to start. After the pop it acted like the battery was dead.. Had a small jump pack hooked up to battery along with jumper cables to another person's sled, because we thought maybe the battery was the issue, nope no luck

That sucks. Wasn't sure if your were going to Muni this weekend, but was hoping to ride with you again. Once you get it fixed we will have to hook up. We are working on a weekend to get NosPro to Gaylord for a group ride with Yamahaguys. Will keep you posted on potential dates if you can make it.Was making some light grinding noises this morning when I loaded from home but I just kind of ignored it and hoped for the best. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
Yes will miss ya. Just like Shagmans. I would have done same. Hope I never hear the grind. Was it bad getting it to trailer?

Original starter. 2015 LTX 60 miles, nothing to judge by, just had to post so that I could see the poll results.
10% failure....that's pretty high, I feel this should dictate a recall of sorts...as soon as they find a fix.
Some say yamaha won't issue a recall unless it is a safety issue...not sure that is true...they fixed all the 98 SRXs with crank issues. And I want to say they fixed the first year 660 raptors that were having issues.

Mine crapped out while the dealer had the sled. Gear is shot also. Service guy said it might not be covered?
