Not a lot of answers these days, I am also wondering about head shims. Do I use 3 stock head gaskets or does someone make a 1 piece one thats the same thickness?

The 3 stacked gaskets tend to blow out easier. Which is good and bad... I ran 3 stacked blew, then switched to a powderlites shim with stock gaskets on either side. I ran the sled at 12lbs on any pump gas over 91 octane with no issues. This is at sea level as well.
As in whos head shim to use....Don't really matter, just depends on thickness and how much you want to lower compression. You can also use a shim and them split a stock gasket into 3 pieces and use the outer 2 pieces on either side of the shim.
Just be sure to find Ted Jannettys TQ spec's and follow them, it works.

I know Impulse makes stainless headshims for the Nytro's, so Maybe give them a call and see if they do the same for the Apex.

It's all in how you prep it. just take your time and torque correctly and you'll have no problems.

stock preped up right aluminum powderlites on for the rx1 with a split gasket and mine seals awsome, did a bad job the first time and didnt torque properly, leaked just tuning it on the stand...
if you contact each mfg im betting they would let you know exactly how thick it is..

I have different thickness gaskets for Apex and RX1, they are different. You don't need a shim. It's built into the gasket. They work great. Don't stack gaskets, not the best way to do it.

I went with the thicker gasket from Ulmer and its been flawless for 2000 miles now of 10-11 psi on 91 gas.

I stacked 3 gaskets and they blew with very few miles on the motor. I side with TWIN TURBO on this one, he has them in many different sizes.

I have the one of the first stainless built from impulse works great split the head gasket and I am running 10-12 on 91. Flawless in chest deep powder for 750 miles this year.
Yrs ago when head shims werent out yet, BC buddies were stacking head gaskets with good results. My sled went 3600kms with 3 head gaskets stacked. Boost started out @ 5lbs, worked up to 20lbs, no issues. Decided to the complete sled rebuild, front to back. Now have j e 9 to 1 pistons with 1 head gasket. Heard that the propane guys are using the ss shim, there running pretty good levels of boost to get there hp #'s up.
