I rode with a mach Z and a 600 sdi all winter and got my clock cleaned every time at the pump. I was a tad slower than the mach on top but I had a much better ride. The sdi blew up again for the second year in a row but canadian dealer had the motor replaced in the same day. I bet if I need a new motor from Yamaha I would be stuck there for a month. I pesonally hate the gas milage on this thing and I hope the after market guys figure out the secret because Yamaha could care less as long as it doesn't blow.

Doo better be quick with the replacement engines because a LOT of them blow. Yam on the other hand.... with the frequency of engines blowing up, its no wonder they don't have spares scattered all around.

its funny becuase in the new amsnow mag, they said the apex got an average of 14.5mpg, and the Mach z only got 11.2mpg..(average)
I know ive read on doo talk that some people claim to get 18+mpg on the mach..

Dont get me wrong guys, I am happy with my Apex and wouldnt own any other sled. My smileage factor is tipping the scales. I'm just looking for a mileage improvement, which is what Yamaha advertised. Inititially Yamaha said "DONT TOUCH THE EFI". Later in the season I have heard of yamaha dealers changing the efi, with average mileage of 18-20.
AND NO I wouldnt want a Mach Z because of the hassles and that package isnt up to the level of the Apex. (yes the Z is faster when the clutch is adjusted)

My ER averages about 13-14 mpg. Ive had 121 miles before i ran out. I would be happy with 17-18 mpg. Its smells like it running way to rich. So you would think there would be room to lean it out a tad? My buddy has a doo machz and it only gets 142 miles to a tank (according to gas pump at fill up). The doo is a ok sled , but no way is ever want one, even if it is faster and gets better gas milage. Ill never miss hauling oil with me, lol!

What kind of GT do you have that has carbs? I thought these were all EFI.

X-APE said:Welter, I get about 11~12. I ran out one day at 115~120 miles. I forgot exactly, but it was bad. The 700 pro-x I rode with had enough to go another dozen or so miles to gas. I follwed one of my buds on a good running 04' xc7sp across big diamond(about a mile) and was unable to gain on him. It seems to just stop at 107/8ish(indicated). I do have dually's which takes some top end out but was dissed after hearing claims of 120+ indicated..I weight about 250 suited. I thought about a bad plug but it does run good other than the stumble when you spike the throttle at low r's.
I saw 130 on my dreammeter rather easily on my RTX both stock and with Allens stage II kit and usually was within a couple dollars of my wifes 500ss ski doo on every fill up. I weigh about 240 in my gear,Im still on my stock hyfax, no damaged idlers yet, unstudded and run 8" shaper bars on stock skis.

Ya – Throttle bodies – whatever – Da - im used to saying carbs – There’s a tread on here somewhere on how to do it. Maby your dealer will do it under warrantee.
