Guys
I have been seeing a variance in the way nytro,s have been performing. The faster ones seem to be hitting over 9k rpm while other ones are running 8800 rpm with stock clutching. Anyway I saw a great article on dynotech about Al ulmer testing some of his stuff on their dyno. This in itself is an awesome article & worth the $20 subscription fee to dynotech. I won,t reprint the whole article on here but just the stuff that proved i wasn,t nuts. Here is the main part in a nutshell. The whole article is huge with a lot of dyno testing with mods on the nytro & shows what really works on those sleds! Buy the subscription for this article only cus it,s worth it.

Heres a 2008 stock Nytro that new Hubbardsville, NY Yamaha dealer Aaron Excell (315-
691-6916) brought to be a mule for dyno testing. Two other stockers—one brought for
baseline numbers by Justin from Full Power Performance turbo systems and the one we
got from Big Moose Yam/Cat for the Shootout both made 135 CHP. This one was close
to 142, and interpolating the Innovate wideband numbers, higher fuel flow, air density
(.073) we can assume the added HP was due to added airflow compared to the Nytro
135ers tested here. Our best assumption is that the 142 sled Aaron brought here has a
better, quiet but higher flowing muffler than the other two. Did Yamaha create, at the last
minute, a higher flowing quiet muffler?

Oh ya...I got the 8800 rpm version!!!! Figures!

Interesting....I've noticed that my neighbour's sled and mine (both FX Nytro RTX) do sound different, one being a bit louder than the other, hmnnn....

Your right about Dynotech Turk. $20.00 well spent IMO. I don't know what I have. I have not looked at My Tach once! No joking. I hit the throttle and she checks out. I'll have to renew My subscription and check My RPM's. Thanks Turk.

Interesting, mine with stock clutching bangs off the rev limiter on a fairly regular basis. My brother in law made the same comment to me.

Wonder if theres a different part # stamp on the mufflers? I should take a look at mine and see if any #'s are visible.

i have heard this muffler thing a few weeks ago from a pretty reliable source,he said the header pipe was differnt, larger dia,did not think much of at the time i heard this. i have been spending so much time trying to get the handling down i have not even checked my rpm, this should get interesting before it is all sorted out

Ive seen my rpm's over 9000,top speed mid 90's hit triple digits only once. That's on the speedo,if it's out like my apex was then I'm getting low 90's real speed!Kinda dissapointing for 138 horses.

I know I saw it posted here somewhere before, but does anyone know what the peak horsepower and torque #'s are ? Also, at what rpm does the limiter kick in ?

well, than that expalins alot! my wifes anniversary nytro mtx revs faster, pulls harder, and pulls more rpms than my team blue mtx. she put a whoopin on me on the lake today. i thought mine was pullin hard all day long, running rx1 fa weights hitting near perfect rpms, thought i had a hot ticket clutch set up. she was complaining all day her rpms were 89-9000 with the low elevation mtx set up. we switched sleds man her sled just rips. doesnt backshift very well, but rips in a straight drag pull. lined em up got spanked twice by hers. maybe i'll have to switch exhausts. LOL! ski

Go out tonight and switch the body panels.............. She'll never know........MM. ;)!

As stated above there is those that are 135 hp sleds and then 139-140 hp sleds. The only tested difference currently has been the muffler itself as testing with muffler removed had different results on 135 hp machine than on 140 hp machine. Peak torque is almost irrelevant as it is down around 6800 rpm and peak horsepower has shown in the 8600-8800 rpm range.

mine pull a 136x1.5 track easily with no clutching changes and it will run 100 mph easily. My buddy was up in hayward on the flowage and said his would only go 94 mph but he could stay with a 900 switchback Polaris for along time.

Someone asked about the rev limiter. It kicks in at 9400 rpm, but anything over 9000 rpm and the ignition timing begins to retard and hamper horsepower.

So say you have a 135 and 140 horse Nytro and put the Excell system on both which replaces everything. They should end up making the same HP right?
