Some of these 998's had cracked heads right from the factory or shortly after in stock configuration. Coolant would go down and oil level up and become milky. Sounds like the case here. It's happened with more than a few.

where abouts woukd they crack? could i see it by pressurizing coolent with valve cover off ?

The heads tend to crack around the casting plugs visible under the valve cover. The plugs look like big pipe plugs and the cracks are hard to detect but around these. I think it was Turboflash that posted a picture of the cracks a few years ago?

thanks fellas il have to pull the cover n see whats going on... i shoukd note this sled has never did this befor, everytime i ride it it gets put back in a heated shop and panels pulled, i check coolent, oil and for oil tank leaks every time! this just happened yesterday, running it pretty hard for an hr, just swapped my clutching over to tp,sled is bang on now , i thoght finally im done dialing and messin with this unit after 5 yrs lol.... now this...... any tips tricks speacal tools, timing, advice would be appreciated,if it turns out to be a head get used complete? or bare yamaha n seap valves? wich brand of head gasket everyone using and im assuming arp stud kit

Oil cooler on front of engine is another possibility.

When you say it may have got warm once, do you mean it overheated without coolant in it?
Also, is it tuned?

i was wondering about an oil cooler, are these known for em? im assuming to test it, pull it off n air it?

would anyone know what adapter for wich car or a number for an adapter to fit a sw to hook up to my pressure tester? it seems i dont have one that small in my kit

I’ve had a few cracked heads around the casting plug . Worst one was we ordered a new one to replace the bad one and it was cracked too.

OMG! First time I've heard that!

thats not good! my first step is finding the correct adapter to verify the leak, once verified, a new possibility cracked casting from ysmaha? or just get a used complete head? are their torque specs on thise plugs? mesning remove em ,reseal em and properly torque em in used or new?

Im sure we were just extra lucky to get a new one that was cracked as well. I dont know if it’s a good idea to try and remove the casting plugs
