I used to feel the same way, but those Goofy Little Things are not so bad after a while. Having the side panels come off in seconds along with the hood works for me The older style ones with a hood can get in the way sometimes as well

I'm not a LOYAL BRAND consumer I buy what suit's my needs at that given moment...I've owned "POO" "CAT" and "YAM" RX1 '05 and now ride '08 APEX LTX, "DOO" has never had anything to draw me to them till their new "XP" but still have nothing under the hood that performs and last like a YAM motor, their new 1200 4 stroker is not bad but still needs feild testing and some tweaking to match up with YAM'S performance.
At this very moment it would be another APEX LTX all the way no question asked!
Im glad to hear that info about the apex, I knew about the extroverts and roller bearings from yamaha's site, but where did all that other info come from, id like to read all about it! Magazine?
Essentially, all those updates are things I have seen that needed to be done, and are done. So yes, I would absolutely buy my sled again, and mod it with my power mods and others.
On another note, the apex is by no means old imo, handles awsome on trails, does amazing offtrail and never get stuck, and alot has to do with the motor. Offtrail, I use the throttle to throw and turn the sled around, and that instant power is what also alows me to quickly gap jumps and bumps in the trail. Try doing that with an e-tecs....

I am not sure I agree about the off trail capabilities (at least on the short track models like mine).
However for what I use mine for which is 90% groomed trail / 10% lake & river running I wouldn't trade it for anything else!

I have Rock's hot hands kit for mine but I am still curious if the handwarmers are really fixed on the 2010 model?
(I also saw I needed this post to reach the 1000 mark.)

998 would have been a sweet number to leave it at!
The cobra on mine makes an incredible difference, and yes, long track all the way!
BTW, kinger, your going to love those removeable panels. Did a motor job on a 97 SX and I definately missed removable panels!

X2 on the Cobra windshield. I have the mid height on mine and it is way better than stock! (Stock windshield in new condition is available if anyone needs one)

Don't think I'd trade mine for what's out there now, but if Doo wanted me back they could make a direct injected triple about 190hp in the old ZX chassis (I totally hate the rider forward thing for groomed trails.) I also still hate the engine braking on the Apex.

Snerkman,
If you want to reduce (but not eliminate) the engine braking try Ulmer Racing's clutch kit.
For me the kit has just enough engine braking to be useful but not so much that it is an annoyance.

I agree that you could to tap your brakes just as a courtesy if someone is following you just to give them a flash of brake light as a warning of a curve.
I can ride so fast through most corners using just engine braking that I have had people that were following me blow corners that they were not expecting!

Now your talking "TRACK" I'm seriously considering going that route on my LTX, I want more TRACTION in the looser stuff on groomed trails by the end of the day when they start falling appart...my RIPSAW is fine on HARD packed & still in good condition but I find it hasn't got the traction I want in the loose stuff, and the other thing is I want to go FULLY CLIPPED.

If your wanting to get a new track, and dont know which one you want, get this one!! I have owned two brand new ripsaws and have demolished both, one is on a 500 fan venture xl, and somehow I ruined it?! Anyways, no damage on my cobra, no pulled studs, etcc, I have never seen a tougher track.
Also, the deep snow traction is amazing compared to the ripsaw, this is where the biggest diff is, otherwise theyre the same on the trails, with maybe the cobra allowing for a little more "kick out"
I also went fully clipped both for the slider wear which will decrease the wear and because I have extroverts. Clipping is a long job, but quicker than studding!
I cant say enough good things about this track!

I have ridden Doo's Poo's and F cats (nothing newer from AC) and I am still excited to ride my APEX. I wouldn't say it is the BEST, but for what I do, GROOM TRAIL RIDE it is the best for me.
