Is it possible to compete with a 800 outlander if you install a hot cam and 11.1 piston in the grizz? whats the stock horsepower of the grizz and 800 can-am?

From the speed and power of the 800, I have head there is no chance. I sure would like to try with my big bore set up...

I am quite sure a Can am 800 puts out around 62 horse stock. I think a mid fifties built Grizz could take it as its power to weight ratio is much better.

A friend of mine just bought one he gets 148 km out of it. Scary fast.

That's true. Now he just needs a beefier frame, skid plates, locking differentials, and separate front and rear hand brakes. That is if you are into utility bikes and not hybrid sport bikes. By the time you add the above, combined with the high sticker price of the Can Am Outty, you can buy yourself a darn nice used 4x4 pickup......Speed isn't everything.V-Maximum said:A friend of mine just bought one he gets 148 km out of it. Never said it was but you gotta love it I do . Still wouldent take one over a Grizz, I hate listening to those guys brag. I dont think they ride, or handle as good either. But they are rated to pull more, 1500 lbs I think?

I didn't mean to come across as bashing your friends Outty. They are fine bikes, and the Rotax v-twin engine is a beast for power. If that is what your friend purchased it for.
Can Am has just turned me off with their in your face, "our stuff is gold your stuff is junk" type of advertising. Plus they offer very little in what I am looking for in a ATV, a balanced, reliable, and good all around utility bike. Not a more power "one trick pony". The Visco Lock 4WD system is nice in mud and sand, but can be flat out dangerous when coupled with all that power on rocks, uneven hard pack, or dried creek beds. Check out this video to see what I mean.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wkjjsklzlw

No offence taken. Thats a good video and a great example of why a big bore single makes more controlable power than a V-twin. It also seems like the Visco drive isnt at all like the Ultramatic, I still love the Grizz.

It appears to me that all that extra power isn't helping much. That quad needs a real locker on the front and he would ride right through that little washout. I wonder what kind of machine the blue one is sitting on the top of that little hill? :ORC
I am glad he isn't riding with our group. Of course the entertainment might be worth the wait.
