Just a heads up to all those moving down to lower HP sleds from Winders and T-Cats that I don't want to see any fist shaking when I(or anyone else) blow by you guys when you're holding us up on the trail. And we don't want to hear any poutin when you finally catch up at the next bar or shack.
Just sayin......

Right on Nitro my Viper with Hurricane 190 kit gave all the 850'S in my neck of the woods fits on the trail or lake. I can't wait to lay the smack down on there candy #*$&@'s with my new Winder. I do believe that some guys are just not ment to own a Winder especially those who like to ride standing up.

It's understandable and perfectly normal for people to switch brands of anything. IMO best way to find out if what you've been hearing about that brand is BS or close to the truth. How many different brands of cars have you owned? How about tools or lawn mowers or ATVs or outboard motors or motorcycles, snow blowers, etc.Hey guys, hope everybody is well. I hear you all. After 3 years on my Winder...I’m jumping ship too. My Apex was rock solid..turn key and go. Rode it for 9 seasons without any issues whatsoever. Made me admire YAMAHA so much, that I didn’t think twice about ordering my 18 Winder RTX.
But other than my Winder being very fast..it’s no YAMAHA of old with regard to durability and reliability. The Cat DNA has plagued my experience unfortunately. It’s Shortened my trips on more than one occasion, and also left me stranded in the woods this year.
It’s a beautiful sled...and I would never bash, but I find myself always having to do something to it/fix something/worrying about what’s gonna blow or go next, and it’s robbing my joy of the sport now. And I’ve lost some confidence in the machine at this point.
So I hate to say it, but I’m done for a little while with YAMAHA Sleds. Not saying I won’t be back at some point, but I’m jumping ship for a bit.
Like Steve and Dan, I’m heading over to Doo. I Spring ordered a 21 Ski Doo MXZ X-RS 850 for next season. I love Yamaha, and the power and top end of the Winder is amazing. But it has become unreliable for me. So for now it’s time to make a change.
Ive spoken with Rocker Dan, and he absolutely loves his 20 MXZ X-RS 850. And my two riding buds each have one, and they love them...both have been rock solid. Every brand has its issues no doubt, but gonna give an 850 Doo a whirl for a couple years.
I’ll be checking in here regularly, and I think this site is top notch. Really respect all you guys and really enjoy the site. Two or three years from now I could be back on a Yamaha again..who knows??

I bought a 2020 stx-gt in march...awesome sled. Its been in the shop for 2 months now, the dealer and Yamaha have been great in trying to get the oil to stop leaking out of the chain case because of 2 things 1) the cover plate is off spec and warped...the sled is now going to have had 4 different covers in 725 miles. My guess is the. manufacturing is faulty and perhaps the engineering is faulty..2).I think it could use more bolts to hold the oil inside the chain case instead of outside the chain case. I'm a cook...not an engineer or mechanic so I rely on others to service the sled. The sled has been in the shop for 2 months now...what happens next season when and if it starts leaking again while on the trail...right...screwed...Its time for a real solution to this problem or as much as I wouldn't want to do it a Doo sled will have to be in the garage as a second sled so I can get some riding in next season. Bottom line...Yamaha has to address the issues and recall the Sidewinders for oil leaks and have a real solution in place...the answer may be simple ( new type of gasket) or more complicated...who knows...I'm just a cook.

If they have installed 4 covers and it is still leaking it's pretty obvious it's not the cover and probably the chain case it self not that hard to figure out. I suggest you find a different dealer sounds like they are taking advantage of you and I doubt that Yamaha was ever contacted.

What did the yamaha rep say when they inspected the machine for the warranty claim? If he/ she approved it then there 's no problem yamaha pays very simpleBeing told by my dealer that Yamaha is getting more and more difficult to work with. All warranty repairs done back in March are now being questioned, and dealers are not being paid.
We are talking about the standard things that keep breaking, gears, oil leak at tank and shaft bearing... Yamaha wants a full history detail. Pretty soon dealers are not going to want todo any warranty work...
I have had lots of yamaha and have had next to nothing done on warranty, know that i have a artic crap chasis and need to use it, yamaha is giving a hard time to my dealer....
Not impressed, lucky covid 19 cancelled spring check,, because i was really looking forward meeting the new reps

You want to go to a poorer handling sled thats limited to milege before it lives up to its name BOMBHey guys, hope everybody is well. I hear you all. However, have you ever tried telling a John Deere owner that other brands of farm machinery exist....

I suggested that the chain case might not be flush...they said they tested it..fine..there is something wrong for sure...if the dealer is not being honest then they are very convincing...I will give it a few more days as they are again contacting yamaha to pre measure the chain case cover before sending it...the last one was 30/1000 off flush...all 4 chain case covers have been off from 11/1000 to 30/1000 of an inch...I also suggested the sled may be a lemon and needs to be replaced or return my purchase price...this is not supposed to happen on a sled that's new and only 700 miles on it...any comments on this are welcomed...thank god its not sled season. If they have installed 4 covers and it is still leaking it's pretty obvious it's not the cover and probably the chain case it self not that hard to figure out. Something seems off with this whole deal, do you know if they installed a new gasket when they changed out the cover or did they use the old one. You do know that the chain case cover is part of the oil tank also and I would think that if something went wrong in the machine prosses that the oil tank would be leaking also. In order to check the chain case it self it would need to be removed from the machine. I would think if they went that far they would have replaced everything with new parts especially if it is being covered under warranty.
