So you're saying you found the snapped off bolt in the driveshaft but not the top part (head) that retains everything outboard of the spring? Either it's been apart without your knowledge, or you've missed it.
This skid plate is the best thing you can buy for your Nytro.....also the first thing you should buy. The utter lack of protection underneath makes it the "Achilles heel" of the FX Nytro. All the other add ons aren't going to do you any good if you're missing an engine sump, have a rod through...
Let's hope that the lightweight skid parts do show up up on the 2012's but not the boost options. I will agree that it is a good thing that Yamaha is now officially endorsing boost, but what they need to do is get their butts in gear and release a proper production turbo 4 stroke sled......ie...
The stock filter I measured was 2" tall. I am running an aftermarket that is 2.75" tall. Still a bad design on Yamahas part for putting the stiffeners where they did, let alone the totally inadequate "protector" plate.
You're lucky that's all it did. You should be throwing that chunk of plastic away. Do a search for Roest skidplate. That's what you want to have under there. It's just too expensive to find out the hard way.
You should seriously consider one. One good hit underneath might make you regret not having one. Check out some of the threads in the general section. Roest makes the best one out there.
There are several options on the website. www.roestracing.com They also make the best skid plate on the planet for the Nytro. Anyone riding without one of these has no excuses!!
My point was that just grinding down the aluminum stiffeners and reinstalling the protector plate is stupid. I agree with you that Yamaha made a bad decision with where they placed the stiffeners but the whole protector plate was a mistake on their part if they thing that it will protect their...
Anyone riding a Nytro with just the the protector plate is asking for trouble. They are ignorant if they think it is adequate protection for the engine and heat exchanger. Last season the only option was the plastic skidplates but now there is something much better. I am running a Roest...
X2. That skidplate is the bomb. Got one as well. It replaces the stock panel that "killed" your motor. This $180 skidplate would have saved your $5000 motor. Let this be a lesson to others!!!
Two options for mounting the front of the skidplate. 4 outer holes mount it to the frame tubes, or if you have an 09 or newer sled you can mount it to the gusset plate via the 2 inner holes. Check out the pics.
It is the new skidplate from Roest Racing. I got one of the first ones. They should be ready in 5 days. 3/16 aluminum, CNC machined to fit like OEM. All fasteners (stainless) are recessed or hidden. No crappy aluminum rivnuts. Doesn't deform or put holes in your side panels. Here are some final...
