The axle bearing/speed sensor seems to be a weakness. Read somewhere that some guys swap them out yearly.

Interesting. I was thinking 'why doesn't Yamaha make a light introductory ' sled? Be 4 stroke with everything else, but put a kick-a## 2 stroke motor into an intro sled. Yamaha must be below the average 'emissions' requirement. Bring it on.

Are you sure there was any protection in the first place? I say this because a dealer once installed studs but not the protector. Two seasons later I poked a hole. He said I didn't 'request' the $60 plate.

I did the same thing. 50 miles new. No studs. Testing it. Fresh snow over glare ice; hand off throttle and unexpected engine braking kicked in. A few donuts (and we're not talk in crispy creme), and sled is on it's side. Studded it as part of the $1000 introduction to engine braking. Glad...
