Just wondering if anyone besides me had their key lock in start position due to the new key fab on the 06 sleds? I was stranded in Quebec this weekend and when finally got sled to dealer they told me Yamaha is losing their shirts on this problem. The deler has replaced two starters this week with the same issue.
By the way the dealer Gregorie in Quebec was great, they worked after hours to get me back on the trail, and actually picked me upin some remote town outside of Joliette.
My advice snap the fab off the key are use the spare key.

Please tell me how this is possible???? I looked at my sled last night and dont see how it could happen?

I apologize didn't know there was another post. Now if you look at your key fab position you will notice that it is possible for it to get caught in the groove on your gas tank, this then engages the starter and burns it up.

I use the "Jack knife" key in my sled all the time, but I put it in so the "handle" sticks pointing up. It cant get stuck on anything that way. It also is very easy to start like that too.

The other post suggested to use the fob upside down (pointed toward the windshield). I tried it and it looks and works fine. I thought that the concept behind the fob was to keep a key chain from marking up the tank.

i rode with the key fab in an upright position and this still happened to me. The only thing I can think of was hit it with my knee or a couple of bumps knocked it down. Most people that ride for several hours straight are the one experiencing this problem, the ones with several stops and goes during a day are not having the issue. either way found it safer to ride with the spare after being stranded once.

I use the spare key. Looks like the fob could snap off and leave me stranded. Usually travel cross country with saddle bags many miles from my truck. I carry the fob zipped inside my jacket as a spare.
