Ummm......Yamaha never built a competitive chassis. The early SRX they stole from Sno-Jet and the Phazer they stole from a Canada company went broke a decade before. I am in no hurry for them to try to build there own chassis again

Yup I believe that the upgrade in 05 to the mono shock was the best thing they ever came out with and it was all their idea. I was very happy (other tan the weight issue) with the 05 rx and later apex's and wish the 4 hole would c0me out in a new chassis from them. We would not be dealing with ECU, warm start, reverse breaking, and starter failures then either.
OH and now a suspension that we have to remove a bogie to clear a shock!!!! Even this CAT sled still needs the same shock valving help that we dealt with in the past on true Yammi sleds.

I am sure it was an over site on Yamaha's part with the cross engineering... its pretty minor. I would guess Hygear had an idea it would be a problem because if you add the Hygear Dual pressure can and the linkage change to an XTX with a Float 3, you have to remove one bogies on one side or change the cap to a float 2.

Well the bogies don't come in to play if you add their kit you have to have the 2nd chamber pointed down.

The air valve comes out the side on the Float 3 and out the center on Float 2

I have been a Yamaha fan since my first Yamaha motorcycle in Junior High School, Yamaha has always built first rate engines but you cannot ignore the snowmobile chassis history.

I would like to see your facts on those statement...those are pretty bold statement to say that Yamaha has stole those ideas. Back in the day everyone was coping others to try and get the upper hand... its still happens today in all manufacturing... you dont have to change it much to make it yours.

Yamaha had a deal with sno jet to sell them engines, after the Thunderjet was eliminated from racing via rule changes Yamaha came out with a chassis very much like the Thunderjet called the SRX. Who knows maybe they had a reciprocal agreement and Yamaha was given the info?
EDIT: I found the pic I was looking for. Probably the most successful Yamaha chassis ever was the early Phazer. Check out this pic, one is a 1975 and one is a decade or so later.
Sorry to go off topic, back to the discussion at hand

The windshield isn't what made the old Phazer the number 1 selling snowmobile back then. It was the lightweight, right power, suspension and just how much Fun it was compared to others.

Not enough facts for me to accuse Yamaha of steeling designs... but to each his own.

To the original poster.
If you have to remove bogies i whoul hope you at lease demand they give you ice scratchers to make up for this error.
It aint much but its a start.
Also, would you consider trading in the shock to either yamaha or hygear for something that works or fits properly?
I would think thats a better option than pulling off bogies.

Hi. Yeah. Sorry we got off on a tangent there. As far a shocks go. I've been a fan of fox floats for many years now. So I took the leap of faith to try the evols on the back. This set up has been used on the mountain sleds on cat side for years and people love it. So I'll try it. If I don't like it.... Well I can always go for coils!! I am a huge fan of Yamaha. Have had many of their products. And yes. Like all makes and models. They all have some fallouts that need fixing. But guys, I will tell you, Yamaha hands down has the best customer service in the industry when it comes to extra curricular activities. They stand behind their products 100%. That in itself means the world to me.
I wonder if that rod is same length as the LTX? LTX uses two links in place of that rod like Hygear but steel. If set on keeping the bogies there that and evol down is only option from Yamaha or cat. I would look at using rail reinforcement and move wheels forward. It's also possible that the real small Hyfax saver wheels might clear.
