Yesterday driving the apex the over heat light came on I drove into deeper snow and let it cool soon after it overheated again and started smoking. There was oil all over the pto side of motor and the 'breather' tube up to the air box on pto side seemed to be the culprit for smoke and the oil any ideas what could have gone wrong here I'll get it in the garage in a couple days

Did you recently change the oil? Too much in there? I had the same issue, still not 100% sure how it happened but I lost approx a quart the same way. It was running pretty hot at the time. First invest in a set of scratchers and second I would change the oil and test the coolant, sounds likes they will need to be cleaned.Yesterday driving the apex the over heat light came on I drove into deeper snow and let it cool soon after it overheated again and started smoking. too much oil will shoot into air box. too much can be as bad as too little.

If it did have to much oil in it wouldn't it have done this rather instantly or did the overheating help the oil boil over into airbox

I do not know how much oil was in it. It's not mine I was literally on the machine for five minutes while the other rider was trying out one of my polaris's....I know probably a taboo word. I'm not a stranger to four strokes as there's a turbo cat lurking around my garage I am however totally new to Yamaha the only brand I haven't owned yet.... I'm thinking cleaning out the oil and whatever sensors could be involved and maybe some new plugs and I could be in business I hope...if not and I end up opening the engine up what sort of n/a mods are available
