Last night, picked up a used blue 2007 Phazer with 2,200 miles.
This is a project I will be working on with my boys to keep them interested in the things both they and I love to do which is ATV's, Motorcycles and Snowmobiles and have already tore some of the machine down. Right now it has stock everything with dooly carbides, studs (makes me cringe cause we just fixed our 08 Nytro that thru a stud into the heat exchanger), skid plate and a funky blue windshield. Oh....the belt was on backwards also....LOL
The steering....WTF? Sloppy, Sloppy sloppy...... all I can say, this needs to be fixed. I saw a thread about sloppy steering and 19 pages of reading? Just let me know what I have t do
Clutching is my expertise, this thing needs clutching bad.... What are some of your setups? I like a very low smooth engagement with a lot of pull. Clutches are off, machined them for overdrive at work last night with my oldest son and found an SRX secondary clutch lying around so I machined the splines back in the secondary so I can have the late model clutch to work with. (Stock secondary sucks!). I believe in the stock Yamaha weight profiles and saw a setup that used Yamaha 89A weights. Have a ton of weights, springs, helix's....Let me know a good setup to start out with as right now. I would love to just spend a day testing clutching, but can't do it right now....
Maybe exhaust and an airbox mod....but don't want it too loud. Trying to find something that will make some power but still trying to show my boys that loud isn't always faster.
Let's hear it

You need to order UPBushman's sloppy steering kit. PM him about it. I have ordered the Yamaha kit but apparently it doesn't last.
Clutching start at a 41* helix with the green spring and you should have a great starting point (96 Vmax600XT clutching).
Most recently Hindle has come out with an full header-muffler that is quiet. The muffler body is about double the size of my Aaen. My Aaen makes great power but it's loud. A very nice tone there is nothing else out there like it, but its loud and I repack it every season.
I have the Ulmer stealth airbox but honestly it wouldn't be any more power than the Frogskinz vents in the airbox lid. UPBushman did a nice write up on his. http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/07-phazer-mtx-air-box-mod.103698/ And of course there is the fuel programmer if you want to add hp and safety but its pricey.
If you want performance get a real track on there! Find an 1.5" track and get it on a table saw to narrow it to 14"... you won't regret it!

Also Schmidt bros have a lot of clutching options including low-engagement kits

You could talk with Cannondale... Mr Phazer himself... or Yamahas

There are a few things you can do to improve it. Definitely UpBushman's steering and ski spindle kits. There's also the inner tie rods where you could use an ATV tie rods instead:

The top plastic steering block can be replaced with these made of aluminum with an Oilite insert. Very solid.

And while you're there, check the dog bone link that goes from the steering post to the pivot. These can wear out and get loose. I had made a replacement using Heim (or Rose) joints but on one of my three sleds, they have already worn out. You might want to use the stock piece instead.

Check the Phazer FAQs. Lots of info in there to improve things.

Well these guys have definitely pointed you in the right direction. I don't have much to add to this.
UpBushman kit for sure, you already have one of the top mods imo with the secondary clutch. If it help you at all I have the ulmer clutch kit with a stock vector GT secondary (I think its a 2011?), though its not really a low engagement set up.
To get rid of those studs, find a 1.5" track, probably the best mod I ever did. Just need to cut it down to 14", or find a freeride.
Like mooseman said the steering block can also be replaces, I got mine from OTF.
In your PM you asked about top speed, I see about 125km/h on the trails, top ive seen is 135, but it was only once and a long stretch lol.
I really like the snowtrackers on my yamaha mtx skis with the limitar strap pulled in an extra hole or 2 (I'll have to check).

Awesome guys! Thanks so much!
Story behind this sled..... 2,200 miles but not too long ago the crank end broke off and the clutches went bingity-bang! So, these clutches are nice and new and the engine along with the clutches was replaced very few miles ago. This sled also doesn't have a reverse....ordered that way.
As of last night....I have the splines cut down from the inside of my SRX secondary spare I had in a box (Nice to work at a machine shop) Clutch went right on and is within .010" of where the stock secondary was so I'm very happy to see that
I will be selling the stock secondary if anyone is interested.
But, now I need to find a bolt for the secondary clutch. I machined a spacer to fill the gap but is there a bolt from another sled that will work? You said Vector, did everything switch over the same Yamahas?
Looking at tracks right now, but the steering needs the most attention right now.

Bolt is nothing special. Just go to a bolt supply house and get a 14mm x 1.50 pitch x 40mm bolt and you're good to go.

No reverse, then you have the base model. Does it have a fan? Most didn't come with one and Yamaha would install one if the customer complained about overheating.
The crank end broke off? Then it could have been the infamous early production defect of the gear reduction. Surprising that it lasted this long. Check out the engine teardown in the FAQ which shows what happens when they go.
