2014

Chris Reid hasn't made a post on Sled Talk since November 28th. Either he just stirred the pot to get us all worked up over nothing (not that he wouldn't enjoy that lol) or they are truely up to something.

My source just says they are making some motors for them and it is not the 120 engine he was talking about. I let the hint slip why I know this but no one seemed to catch it.

Someone who works for OSM Magazine?

sort of yes, sort of no. Like I said, I do not want to reveal his name as not to get him in trouble. In reality he kind of works for all the magz.........

That makes sense, certain snowmachine editors will get info from the OEM's and have to sign confidentiality agreements so they don't release the info before the OEM's wants it out.

My understanding of the HPDI system is that its heavier and more complicated than the eTech system. The injectors are more complicated or the pump requires much higher pressures or a combination of the two. I don't think it will be as great of a system for a sled as a lot of guys think. The other thing, I don't believe Yamaha would have gone in the 4-stroke direction if they thought the system would work well on a sled.

But, Cat might not be so picky and be more willing to run something... anything to allow them to build EPA compliant 2-strokes.

Wait, wait I heard Polaris is teaming up with Honda and putting a 4 stroke triple engine equivilent to the 3 cyl nytro in a rush chaisis! (little white Lie, But thats something i would buy the rush rides pretty awsome.) :4STroke:

(SMH).....I have said all along that Cat would have to purchase DFI tech....and I still believe they have a deal worked out with Yamaha for their new two strokes...I guess we will see....if cat goes that route...why would they not offer a nytro motor in the pro cross chassis as an option?? Remember...Suzuki has been bought out, and are supposedly done with Cat after this model year. Mercury marine has orbital tech...that I was told Polaris has dibs on...I have also heard Cat has it's own orbital system...again too many rumors...I guess we shall see.

I can tell you this...there once was a time I had some very good sources...and they gave me some top secret yami stuff (a good 11-12 yrs ago). And from that source way back then (and Yes I have posted this before)....Yamaha DID test HPDI on snowmobiles (I believe he said from 1999 through 2001)..they used the Viper 700's...What the yamaha engineer told my source was that:

1.) It was too expensive (would cost too much to produce and add to cost of machine)
2.) They had several test units burn down...thus they found it too unreliable (yamaha will never put something out that is deemed unreliable...they learned their lesson with the 81 srx, and late 90's vmax twins)
What's been the biggest problems with the ETEC's???
3.)HPDI..added too much weight...it was within 40 lbs of a four stroke rx-1.

From that testing (my source said)...yamaha concluded... that four strokes would be the better route to take with snowmobiles ...as they would be more reliable, and EPA compliant...Also cheaper to produce tha HPDI sleds.

You can say BS...but I really do believe that source...sounds like something a conservative japanese company would do...don't you agree??

I can also tell you this....You have no clue what yamaha is coming with, unless you work for yamaha...the sleds they are currently testing...are 4-5 model years out...and will only be tested behind closed gates on their test and research grounds...NOBODY WILL SEE THEM....probably look like space ships on skis...lol The 2014's are probably going through final calibration testing...you might get lucky and see those sleds in or near greenland michigan...and I am sure a few photos will "accidently" get released...other than that we are just speculating...WHICH IS FUN!!! :drink:

My dealer told me two seasons ago that 2013 was to be a major change for yamahas sled line. The poor snowfall last season made them hold back one more year. With the big meeting planned for all dealers across north america on Feb 24 they must have manys things to show.Word from my dealer recently is they are planning to team up with aftermarket companys to further advance the product.Only thing now that can spoil this party if ski-doo decides to unlease there boost/blown four-stroke sled(it exist, just the poor clutch life holding it back :jump: )
