2014

Wouldn't it be funny if Yamaha and Polaris were going to work together? Polaris doesn't have a great line-up of engines and their 4-stroke presence in the market is pretty much non-existant. Maybe this is why Yamaha is debuting the 2014's in Minnesota? Polaris seems to like to partner up with other companies and Cat has stated numerous times they will be building their own engines and they've got a new plant to do it in.

Polaris doesn't have a good track record on engine reliability and doesn't have a DI system for their 2-strokes like Doo. They are running their CFI 2-strokes very lean to pass emissions and I just confirmed my 600 RMK is running at 80:1 by keeping track of how much oil it used with the first tank. That's too lean for my comfort zone. When I think about it, seems like Polaris would have more to gain than Cat when it comes to Yamaha. Maybe they are already working together? The Nytro race front end sure shares a lot of similarities to the Polaris front end. Yamaha came out with casting technology back in 2003 and now Polaris is using it more and more, hmmm? Yamaha was also using the Polaris IQR rear skid in their sno-x efforts in the last season.
Is that 600RMK motor the same one as in the new indy600?Figure this motor would last longer than ski-doo leaned out 500SS powerplant(reliable until 2008 :o| )As for the Nytro sno-cross skid it was designed by Randy Karpik(FAST fame). He was working for yamaha snocross team(guy knows his s**t).Got a strong feeling people(with untrained eyes) have seen the new 2014 yami sled thinking its a cat.

Yes, they both use the same 2 injector motor. Its the most reliable 2 stroke motor Polaris currently makes but I've read some have gone down after 3000 miles due to lubrication issues. The nice thing is you have the ability to adjust the oil pump for more flow. That's what I'm going to do to mine. The issue with the 500SS was due to the factory jetting them too lean in the mid range and guys were burning them down. They issued a bulletin or recall to address that problem. The good thing, because it uses carbs, you can jet them as rich or lean as you want. I think the original series III 600 used in the 500SS and later carb'd 600's is Doo's most reliable 2-stroke. Both Polaris and Doo have had issues with their fan cooled motors due to having to jet them too lean for EPA.

The stock skid the Nytro came with was heavily influenced by Doo's SC-4. I'm not sure what skid Randy Karpik would have designed? There were pictures on this site of the Nytro sno-x sleds with IQR rear skids. The skids were unmistakable for anything else. As I recall, they were in the Nytro with the aluminum gas tank on the back of the tunnel.

I'm really surprised that no one has a photo of a 2014 sled. I read in some other forums that Yamaha engines were being tested in Cat sleds at Jackson Hole. No pics in those threads either.

could it be the new Yamaha tested there and they thought it was a Cat? Strnge that there is noooo pictures at all

Nice to know you can rich the oil pump(but a the expense of fouling plugs). The most reliable two-stroke right now might be the sno-pro 500 motor(chinese bearings in the jackshaft/price are its deal breakers).Rumours also tell of a redesigned phazer(love the motor in those things).Just need to get them lower in the seating position like the FX nytro(minus the weight).

Cat has some solid 2-stroke motors in their line up, the most reliable of all the current OEM 2-strokes, IMO. I believe this is due to Cat having the emission credits to still run their 2-strokes with plenty of oil. People forget, but Cat was running 4-strokes long before Yamaha and built up credits.

I'll gladly take the chance of fouling some cheap plugs over burning down the motor LOL.

Could someone please post pics about SrVenon and SrViper 2014s?
There is no SrVenon and Viper and no pics, and there is just rumors of a 2014 new Yamaha sled

No apex, No Nytro, similar vector, new venom and viper. All using 3 cylinder high strung Nytro motor and another with boost. Choice of multiple suspensions with all being on a similar chasis. Oh ya a new phase sit down style with a newer motor

makes me wondering if the New ~675cc cross plane triple will debut in a sled instead of a street bike. The current Phazer motor actually makes 70hp at a clutchable 8800rpm if they wanted to ditch the gear reduction. Bump the engine size to 675cc and they could make an honest 95hp out of a twin, or say 100hp out of a "cross plane" triple that doesn't need gear reduction. Although the current Phazer engine held back to 65-70hp @ 8500rpm would certainly work for an entry level sled that would still whoop doo's 600cc 4 stroke. A slightly lighter Phazer with 95-100hp and I'll trade in my Phazer next fall.

A little insight here.Back in the early 2000s when yamaha was planning on going all four-stroke in the future, they were counting on the sled market beening all fourstrokes by 2010(no more smokers).Cat,Poo,and Doo to the greatest benefit spun the marketing hype machine against yamaha to massive sales. Can yamaha come back into mainstream relevance(off trail,sno-cross,backcountry wanabes)for 2014?I hope they prove the haters/naysayers wrong but it would take a massive engineering program. The tech is there, its the dollars that are holding it back.

Not gonna sit here and speculate about what Yamaha will or won't bring to the table in late February/early March. But IMO, a Yamaha/Cat venture is out of the mix. Suzuki still owns a big share of Cat ... and IMO there's no way Suzuki will allow Cat's Board of Directors to make that deal. You guys are getting yourselves into a high speed wobble over nothing.
