2016 jack shaft upgrade

What's different about the 16' jackshaft I'm going to order one. Just wondering. I don't need the brace so I'm ordering just the shaft.

It uses clips instead of the nut to hold it in. Also thicker in some areas and hopefully hardened properly. Check prices. The whole assy was very close in price to just shaft.

My upper bearing failed at 5600 miles but I think I have to share some(most) of the blame for over tightening the chain. It was over tightened for 5400 of those miles and turbo'ed for 2500 at that point.

I have been fighting to remove my old jackshaft but that's a different thread....after reading this I'm wondering if I should be going with the 16 upgrade. I'm on a 15 and 200HP as well.

17 sidewinder setup may work as well. They got rid of wobble bearing and collar! Haven't check whether 6206 bearing fits chaincase side though. On list. Tech school is next week so we should know then.

Hey guys I just purchased a 14 Viper with 3329 miles, stock except can. Do I really need to be concerned about the jack shaft bearing? It has fresh chain and engine oil so I'm hoping I can just ride it next season and then break it apart come spring then inspect and replace whatever is needed. Should I be proactive and check the chain, bearings and gears before next season? I currently do not have a facility to work on it so I would have to take it somewhere to be done. Also do you have to upgrade the jackshaft or can I just replace the bearing?

Is there any reason why these can't be changed up to the Winder setup?
I had a clean 2016 here in February, bearing done at 2700 miles.

I upgraded to 17/Sidewinder setup last year. Kept 16 shaft and replaced inner chaincase and bearings. No more wobble bearing!

Yes remove cover and inspect upper gear bushing, bearing and tensioner roller screws.

Inspection is the key, don’t assume it needs to be replaced. Look for wear on the wobble bearing cage. Pull the seals on the clutch/brake side bearings, inspection and reapply grease.

Thank you for your reply. Better safe than sorry, so inspection will be done.

Parts list, anyone?

Look up my user name "Mills". I updated my 2014 to the 2017 shaft, shaft/bearing mount on clutch side, chain case bearing and internals and put a parts list in the post. I would HIGHLY recommend getting rid of the wobbler bearing if you have it. Newer jack shafts are larger diameter outside the chain case so so have to change the bearing/mount for the shaft on the clutch side. I got all used parts from Travis at Barn of Parts and the internal spacers, clip rings inside the chain case from Babbitts Online for around $270.00

YES!!!! Look up my user name and see the write up I did for the 2014 to 2017 upgrade I did on my jackshaft and bearings. Get rid of the shitty wobble bearing before it takes out the case with it.
