Ride what makes you happy, we all have opinions and that helps us make our choices.

I have ridden the Viper, the ride is good, I will not argue. I have my feelings about Cat no doubt. To be honest Ski Doo is my 2nd favorite machine, but the 1200 is the only motor I would buy from them, just my opinion though. Money being no object the main reason I wouldn't buy the Viper is the power. I like the Apex motor. It is a very good looking sled though. I truly like the hood styling of the Viper over the 7000 Cat.

PS: if anyone should be uptight it's me and the snowmobilers around here. We got %#!! for snow unless you drive to the UP of Michigan.... 6 plus hours for me. STAIN your profile says Vermont. Your area has been getting pounded............go out and RIDE!!

Constructive negativity is good though. Hopefully it helps us get better sleds!! :)

I have put over 25k miles on 5 different Yamahas in the past 10 years. The Viper is the best handling, most comfortable of the bunch no contest. It is the most fun I have had on a Yamaha sled.
If you don't like it and think another brand is for you, go buy it. But please stop pissing and moaning about it. It's getting old.
Yamaha did what they had to do to stay relevant and sell sleds. It's their fault they fell so far behind in chassis development. Maybe that will change in the future but not right now.

All I said was the Cat four stroke was a better deal and guess what, its the same sled chassis your riding, loving and getting all bent out of shape because not all people share your opinion! You don't like Suzuki engines and shared your opinion! Please respect other opinions!

Plus I never said the Cat chassis is not a good chassis, its just Cat and Yamaha can't get together and make the Yami engine start and run the Vector / Nytro. To many cooks spoil the broth! I personally don't like the Cat chassis but if I was swayed to one I told you my choice, an all Cat sled that works long before the Viper. Not a Catamaha that is hit and miss that is hard starting and backfires on startup, sometimes and or eventually destroying starter gears and dropping metal bits into the motor. This is not a broken A arm or cracked rail from abuse, or worn bushings that are changable. Its a catastrophic failure with dire results!

You try to make it about brand but hey If I bought a cat it would be the twin four stroke turboed or NA. So what your selling about brand whatever is nonsense and has nothing to do with my dislike of the Cat Yami screw up! I in fact like my Buds turbo cat, now that they have improved belt life!

I do happen however to love my XTX which is now a 5 year old 3rd generation chassis and is the most awesome of a long linage of thoroughbreds! Maybe not the sled for you as you lean more to the Cat chassis and hey thats your choice ride and enjoy! My buddies ride Cats Doos and a few ride Yami's we all get along.
 
I'm thinking that this year that they are going to re-release the viper except it will have Yamaha electronics and fuel mapping. Plus the take over of the cat factory by yamaha workers that will bring the build quality up to where the customers want it and expect it to be for the chassis. Then you will have an ultimate competitor.
Orrrrrr,
Yamaha files for divorce from cat and retains custody of a couple of their chassis designers so they can be aggressive with some new cutting edge, all Yamaha builds.;)!
 
That's news to me Geezer, but I'll certainly check into it because we keep in contact with Jerry so I'll let you know what I find out. I can assure you that his health was an issue last year so I need to check in on him and the wife anyways so stay tuned..........

He sure is. You don't even own a Viper yet you sit and b*#h about them all day. It gets old and unfortunately a lot of people will read what you write about the viper not realizing you know nothing about it based on experience.

So keep complaining about something you don't own and have no experience with but in all fairness let people know that.

Still way too many gremlins that are unlike Yamaha happening. Just to let you know, we just got home from a 500+ mile - 2 1/2 day trip from the UP with the following: 2014 Viper RTX, XTX, Cat XF 7000 (all with reflash) and all with 2k plus miles, and a brand new 2015 LTX. Not one of these sleds had a single issue, or hiccup. Hot start, cold morning start (0 degrees) semi hot start, no issues at all. They all fired up imeaeadetly, no long crank, nothin. So just for the record there are Vipers out there who are racking up miles of smiles. And we are all "Yamaha" guys too ( except for Cat guy, meow;)

Good to hear. The motor will run fine for years and years....as Nick Keller knows. It will be interesting to see how long the whole machine fairs. It's gonna take a few years to hear how they are after 10,000/15,000/20,000 miles that Vectors and Apex models have already achieved.

Glad to hear it to bad for the ones who suffer with those problems.
 
Id like to add as the Viper crowd is getting unruly, in the morning we are riding and the temp will be -25F. On bagger trips leaving in the morning with -36 to -40F is common. 0 degrees F is balmy! Three sleds within an hours drive are all having trouble with cold morning hard long cranking and backfiring. Two of them are broken because of it! Something the Vector and Nytros did not do! There are many others in the North complaining on here and at the local dealers.

Course its easier to point out I own a Apex and claim I'm making it all up. Thing is I never broke a a arm or slide rail or had a mildred of other RX problems does that mean then they don't exist! Maybe that is why Yami took how many years to fix the handwarmers!
