keep the power steering, agree on adding 10-20 hp. as i get older my shoulders aren't what they use to be and this is one thing that i just love about my XTX, the motor/power band being the first.

I agree with what people want most out of a new Apex model. I am still riding my 2010 and not really excited about the Viper in a kitty cat dress ( watch yellownifes videos). My old tank keeps up just fine! I have done little mods and actually am quite happy with the old girl. I only ride about 1500 miles a season these days so really can't justfy spending 15K for a new one. I still get excited thinking about what will be next in yamahas future?

Does anyone think that the new Viper with factory installed turbo to be a sufficient Apex replacement? I think it might be possible that Yamaha does this.
NO!!!

I like my 2011 XTX! I like the power steering! Only thing I really wish for is a bigger tank and a more compliant rear skid without loosing its big bump capability! While more power is always asked for (must be a male thing) and I could always use more power. Having said that I am really happy with the pull of the Apex right through to top end! I can hang with the 800's and the Cat turbo, the part that makes that cool is I weigh much more then the average rider and I block the wind like a garage door! Put someone on half my weight and size would give the sled the advantage over them. This with a heavier sled and less HP!
To loose weight sure go for it but I never really minded the weight of the Rx or the Apex. They are stable on the trail and not squirrely like some sleds. Off trail in the powder I can see the problem!

After Talking with the Yamaha reps at the Big East Show. This is what I came away with. The R1 4 cyl. cross plain most likely ""WILL NOT"" be the next Apex engine. They seemed to hint about a purpose built snowmobile engine rather than a revamped motorcycle engine. When I mentioned the Exup being made of titanium rather than stainless and the problems with the exhaust doughnuts on the 06s to 10s they said the Exup ""WILL NOT"" be on the next sled. I stressed what I myself would want in a Yamaha built Apex replacement , A 170 to 180hp 4 cyl., A higher seat, full stainless exhaust,10 gallon tank no less, fully clipped track, call it the SRX or better yet V MAX 4 and if possible the Ohlin's rear shock. Now were the guys I talked to being truthful or just blowing smoke up my #*$&@? I guess time will tell.

Are these the same reps that everyone is saying don't know a damn thing. LOL!
I don't think the cross plane will replace the motor we have now just because it gives no benefit over the motor we have now. Yep dump the titanium please and make it Yamaha built I could care less if it uses the motor we have now or a Cat rear skid and front suspension but the chassis needs to be built for the motor not made to fit it way up in the air like the Viper. If I can buy the Hurricane kit and get a honest 167hp why do I need a new motor? That is more then enough to beat the competition.
And please don't make it handle the weight of 5'2" Japanese lightweights or have ergonomics with them in mind. It has to be tough and able to take a hit like the Apex we have now not fold like a pop can for the sake of lightweight leave that to the competition!

There is a lot to improve on. Suspensions could take a big leap forward. Saw an interesting XTX at the Novi sow show this year. The whole chassis moved or rolled/ leaned into the corners, 20 some inches of travel in the front. I would have loved to hop on it right there and take it for a ride. Sure a lighter 4hole would be great but the only time I notice it is when I get stuck and have to lift it up.

CR from YC has been hyping a new Apex since 2010, and now they want us to wait until 2018 what makes them think that I should believe them that they will follow through. 2018 is far away and the other OEMS continue to gain even more ground and distancing themselves from the lagers, Y's 2018 sleds better fly like a plane if they ever expect to be anywhere near the top again. The sled that they have come out with the last 2 years is not up to par, after seeing some used models after one year of use there are body panel rubs all over the machine making it look like crap and I for one will not by a Yamacat viper. I too want change but I am sick of holding my breath for 10 years plus now, so my prediction is the 2016 Apex will have BNG and PD's . If Y is not wiling to put the effort in to making the snowmobile that the customers want its time to leave the sport and make room for the people that do. Telling your customers that they will have to wait dosen't cut it what have you guys been doing for the last 10 plus years, your hands must be pretty sore from sitting on them.

Yep 2016 will be an awesome sled then. Hard to improve on perfection. I will not buy a Catamaha Viper or an Apex!

Questions I would have is once its leaned over there is no more travel left on the side its leaned too! Next is if the track does not lean then you are riding on the edge of the track so loss of traction and the twist of the chassis would be extreme. With no carbides ice would be a huge problem and those smooth skies would have no bite on hard trails for those tiny changes in direction. Studding the track would increase the problem!
In deep snow I can see it working but on groomed trails I think it might be a nightmare!

There is no such thing as perfection, as noted on this site by hundreds if not thousands of TY members. A big problem with the Japanese is they only listen to themselves. C'mon Y build a new Apex your customers demand it, make me want to buy it no matter what just like when you released your 98srx, 00srx, and the 03rx1. GYTR DONE!

Totally agree with gytr done! I think Chris is a good guy but he is paid to blow smoke up our #*$&@ and keep us hoping there is always something new coming down the pipe. Remember the 07 phazer.....what a disappointment! I have an 11 apex and love it, however I would be interested in a new version apex or whatever they want to call it. I do not like the viper or quality of build other than the ergos . Skidoo has some really great features, products and choices of motors in 2 or 4 strokes and all sizes. If they come out with a new model like a triple 2s or bigger 4s I would probably jump ship. They listen and try to read what the customer wants instead of telling them what they want.

Maybe, maybe not, but the Apex XTX is the closest they have come to it. It is so far from the first RX model but every one seems to think it is the same and nothing could further from the truth. This customer thinks that they hit a homerun with the XTX.
