Comparing my Turbo Viper to my FX Nytro ... Maintenance is slightly more difficult on my Viper - only because of the chaincase drain. Otherwise they would be equal. The handgrips on my Nytro were better - only because I upgraded them. Otherwise, Viper is better. Slides on my Nytro were better - only because I upgraded them (was getting 4k miles out of duponts). Otherwise, I'm getting almost 4k miles out of the cheap slides on my Viper. My 2014 Apex is much easier to do maintenance on than my 2017 Sidewider. The slides on the Apex lasted 5200 miles vs the Sidewinders 1200 miles, and the hand warmers are better on the Apex.
This could go round and round all day ... six of one / half-doz of the other.

Hmmm. I find the exact opposite to be true with my Winder vs the apex and Rx1's, Nytros I had.My 2014 Apex is much easier to do maintenance on than my 2017 Sidewider. The slides on the Apex lasted 5200 miles vs the Sidewinders 1200 miles, and the hand warmers are better on the Apex.

Yamaha sells a 2 different 2 stroke sleds. The vk540, and in Europe they sell a rebranded cat 600. Doubt you’ll see anymore. They don’t make 2 stroke wave runners, 2 stroke outboards, etc.
Not being argumentative but, the SuperJet lives on and still the go-to in stand up racing
https://yamahawaverunners.com/performance-race-series/superjet/
Yamaha also has a full line up of 2-stroke outboards sold worldwide. They have only concentrated on 4-stroke in the US, so that they can meet emissions in all 50 states. Including the CARB rating in California.

yamaha helped with the cat 600 2 stroke back in i believe 2013!!!!why do you think it was the best 600cc of the time...no bull$hit!!!!You all have to know 2s engine engineers are long gone at Yamaha. 4s is their specialty that they can leverage from other lines. Yamaha is a capable engine builder but doubtful they would invest in 2s R&D for just snowmobiles really tuff ROI. I’ll be happy with a new platform Apex 4s replacement which is very low hanging fruit for Yamaha.

There are thousands of Cat fanboys waiting for documented proof of that rumor. They all know that DSI 600 and now the 800 were developed in their St Cloud plant. If Yamaha was there, nobody seems to be able to find proof of it.
I'm curious as well, but it sure seems like a waste to develop a purpose built 600 and 800 that will only ever be used in sleds. That's millions in R&D for a very small purpose. It sure is appreciated by the cat riders in our group, but it's wasted on such a small market. But that is the business they are in.

Yup, that 1.8ltr engine is the Apex engine of the Yamaha boating world. I have twin 1.8's in my Yamaha boat. It's a beast!! Someone rumored since the 19ft has a single supercharged 1.8, that possibly the 2019's may release twin supercharged (SVHO) in the 21 & 24ft boats. Honestly, it's not needed. It would just burn more fuel, and they do that well already.

There is no documented proof of Yamaha advising AC on their 2s designs when all the tooling costs were owned by AC at their St Cloud plant. BUT it would have been very easy for AC to ask their OEM partner to take a look see what they thought. Easy money for Yamaha for engineering hours.Yep same wear I got on my 2012 Apex xtx with DuPonts. I hear this handwarmer objection all the time me and my buds all have stock hand warmers no one has cold hands often run just half way or off but we do all have high windshields for UP grades that we only use for connectors to Twistys. Must have been a bad batch since I have both 2007 Attak and a 2012 Apex xtx zero handwarmer problems.

It’s really not important but definitely not a Yamaha 2s design. Would have been very easy for AC to ask their OEM partner to look over design for a game breaker. Makes sense and easy money for chargeable engineering hours if it did happen. Imo Yamaha not going to give away any Yamaha 2s tech and engineering without a ROI just doesn’t make business sense to do so. Think on a good business ROI level not rumors on the inter web.i got this info from a VERY reliable source..He may even chime in on this if he can...I'm done

How is it sad? My sidewinder is the best machine for my riding style , hands down, no contest.
And sales numbers don’t lie. In the 90’s they used to sell way more sleds than today. At least 2-3x as many. There are less places to ride, so just because 1 area was busy when you Went, doesn’t mean the sport is on the rise.
You say people don’t want a 4 stroke? There’s an equal amount, or more, people that don’t want to ride a smelly and slow 2 stroke. To each their own. You like a 15 year old design Apex, cool.
This cat built sled rides and handles better than any Japan model ever made, needs less maintenance, easier to work on than an apex, the skid doesnt break, doesnt eat sliders, is warmer, heated grips work better. I could go on if you like.
Hmmm Apex needs more maintanance? Really! My Apex heated grips work perfect, 12,000 miles skid is not broken, has way better wind protection, in 12,000 miles nothing has broken! What maintenance? Grease and change oil once a year! I could go on if you like!

Ski-Doo, Cat and Polaris 2 strokes outsell Yamaha year after year, plus in every shoot out since the introduction of the 4 strokes the 2 strokes win every year.........that tells the story for me.
But the best part of this is you can buy whatever you want and so can I
Yep the shootout is all about short little drag races! 99.99% of the sledders ride thier sleds much further then 500ft! Well the ones on four strokes do anyway! Two strokes on the other hand lets just say they have a reputation! The shoot out is the problem as it has little to nothing to do with real world riding! You will say you want the quickest sled, another will say no the fastest sled is best, while others will say the best trail riding! I just want one that does all of the above well enough and lasts forever!

No doubt about that. 20k is #*$&@ ton to spend on a sled. I bet we ALL agree on that one.
Yep and the main reason I went four stroke and Yamaha, I got real tired of spending tons of money on a sled that was disposable! If i'm going to invest that much it had better last more then a couple years!

2011 up Apex should have been a new model! It is not the same sled! Yet all the Yamaha Apex haters think it is! There in lies the problem and demise of the Apex and Yamaha built sleds in general!
