The patent on the jackshaft driver supercharge is very interesting. Id love an Apex engine running one of those! greatly reduced under hood heat compared to a turbo and very linear power with excellent fuel economy! One can dream, but with Yamaha I just can't get excited any more. With 2019 sleds Cat only how can one get all worked up about 2020? Yamaha is going to have something for 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ya and 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 ect. In all that time they built a Nytro and Phaser, refined the hell out of the Delta box and built the 998 turbo (no new sleds in 10 plus years just the engine) So in 17 years they built two new sleds Nytro and Phaser! All others are Refined Delta Box with two engine choices (don't get me wrong I love my warrior and my Apex) then after a 16 year run of the Delta Box they drop all them but res-erect the odd duck VK540 (over 20 year old design) Pardon me but I can't muster much more then a sigh! With the demise of my favorite engine and the lack of direction of the company, Yamaha just doesn't impress me much anymore! As a sled builder they are laughable! 2020! Whatever!!!!!! Can we talk about 2021? I think that is going to be the year!

I can't see the patents for some reason,is it the procross chassis?

The side view on that drawing sure does look like a cat chassis to me. If it is, oh well...if it’s an all yamaha chassis...bonus! I love my viper and see no need to switch to a different sled. Viper is a perfect all around sled!

All Yamaha has to do is make a commitment to bringing back the 2 stroke. Try and get CR back. And yes have a 4 stroke but also a 2 stroke. Like everyone else.
Forget about their marketing and research team. Get a few. Guys that bleed snowmobiling
4 and 2 stroke. And spend the next 2-3 months and go around to your dealers talk to them and also invited that dealers customers out for that day and accually let them talk to them and ask what they( customers) want and accually do it.
If you give what customers want you tend to sell a lot more.

Seems to be working for Doo and Poo.

Agree 100% regarding having an option between a 2 or 4 stroke. Yami made some outstanding 2 strokes in the day so I see no reason why they can't do it again, after all they are the best sled motor manufacture in the world.
Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo and Polaris have continued to sell a #*$&@ load of 2 strokes each year. Let me be clear I am not bashing the 4 stroke, it is an incredible engine and has its place but so does the 2 stroke so give the loyal Yamaha sledders an option...........just sayin.

Yamaha sells a 2 different 2 stroke sleds. The vk540, and in Europe they sell a rebranded cat 600. Doubt you’ll see anymore. They don’t make 2 stroke wave runners, 2 stroke outboards, etc.

And that, along with outdated chasis, is exactly why Yamaha is dead last in sled sales. By alot. For along time.

Sled industry is dying, I guess Yamaha saw that writing on the wall. Down to 100k total units sold or so. So even if Yamaha had a 50% share of that, it’s wouldn’t be a huge seller for Yamaha as a company. They will keep making reliable sleds, but they will be an evolution of gradually getting better. They aren’t gonna retool to sell 1000 units of some untested 2 stroke.

The only thing dying is Yamaha snowmobile division. The U.P. of Michigan was super busy this winter. More people than i have ever seen up there. Lots and lots of new sleds. Mostly Polaris and SkiDoos. Mostly 2 strokes. In my riding group, most of us bought new sleds in the last 2 years. Not many people want to buy or ride a 600 plus lb. sled, its been proven.

when you say, "they will keep on making reliable sleds".......NOPE. They dont even make their sleds, Arctic Crap does. They just supply badass engines. Sad sad sad

How is it sad? My sidewinder is the best machine for my riding style , hands down, no contest.

And sales numbers don’t lie. In the 90’s they used to sell way more sleds than today. At least 2-3x as many. There are less places to ride, so just because 1 area was busy when you Went, doesn’t mean the sport is on the rise.

You say people don’t want a 4 stroke? There’s an equal amount, or more, people that don’t want to ride a smelly and slow 2 stroke. To each their own. You like a 15 year old design Apex, cool.

This cat built sled rides and handles better than any Japan model ever made, needs less maintenance, easier to work on than an apex, the skid doesnt break, doesnt eat sliders, is warmer, heated grips work better. I could go on if you like.

I beg to differ Big_Phil..... 2 stokes easily out sell 4 strokes every year. The smell of a 2 stroke means snowmobiling (plus they have sweet smell injection oils nowadays).
2 strokes are slow........wait what???????

Ya, and jet skis used to be all 2 stroke as well, now they are all 4 stroke. Times change.

I used to like 2 stroke sleds, but I also like never having to rebuild an engine. Once you ride a 270+ sidewinder on the trail, any 2 stroke sled will feel like a complete turd in the power department.

With me an my group of riding buddies, the sound of anti-lag means snowmobiling. Lol. Out of 10 of us that always ride, there’s only 2, 2 strokes. That poor Polaris 800 takes a beating trying to keep up with the turbo sleds on fast trails. Uses 25% more fuel + lots of 2 stroke oil.

Lol. I bet that Polaris does take a beating.

Ski-Doo, Cat and Polaris 2 strokes outsell Yamaha year after year, plus in every shoot out since the introduction of the 4 strokes the 2 strokes win every year.........that tells the story for me.
But the best part of this is you can buy whatever you want and so can I
