Although my worthless opinion is that there should be more engine choices other than just fast & stupid fast, the choice of one chassis is smart( save for the 1/2 pint Venom)
Look at yellow and red, they don't have numerous chassis choices, but what they do offer is a greater range of engine/power level choices in that given chassis.
Gotta really hand it to BRP for offering from 60 HP all the way to "180" HP all in the same chassis with most of the same options available on all models.
Yamaha only offering PS on GT Sidewinder models is really stupid.

I do agree with the engine choice issue. I'm wasn't looking for a rocket, but I wanted the EPS and the other "comfort" features on the GT models. My perfect sled would have been the S-TX GT and L-TX GT, but with the non-turbo Genesis 4-stroke that was in my RS Ventures - super nice engine.
So while I did wind up getting the Sidewinders, with me the HP will go pretty much unused .

Haha. I've already been asked by my wife if there is a "de-tune" option available

I am in this exact same boat, This needs to be yamaha's top priority in sleds IMO.When I wrote this post, I was not saying I dislike the current sleds Yamaha produce, I own a Sidewinder and love it for what it is, a fast, comfortable, and awesome trail sled. This is my absolute favorite sled of all time! I wanted a second sled that I can play a little off trail and that my wife can ride when she goes occasionally. It seems to me that the market is right for these 50\50 crossover sleds as Arctic Cat has the Riot, Ski Doo has the Back Country, and Polaris has the Assault. I am a Yamaha guy and would love to see a Yamaha 50/50 crossover sled. That is the disappointment I was referring to. Not Yamaha in general with the current available sleds. I just was hoping for an addition to the current line up. I ended up buying a Polaris Assault and I wish it were a Yamaha but I guess such as life. Certainly was not trying to offend anyone. I guess the title of this post could have been a little more subtle... lol.

There most certainly is. Unhook the end of the WG rod off the actuator. Instant 110 HP.

First, why would AC spend the time, money, and effort to develop EPS for just one sled, which coincidentally is the only sled in their lineup made with a Yamaha motor? That is a lot of R&D money attached to a motor they don't even own. Also, if as everyone seems to suggest, the power steering is programmed into the ECU, doesn't the Sidewinder use a Mitsubishi ECU rather than a Cat ECU? To me, common sense says that this is a Yamaha EPS system, but of course, no one ever accused me of having much common sense.
With the manufacturer stamped on the EPS is the same as AC SxS, atv. To me, and to answer your question, it tells me the relationship is far from over! Bring on another 5 years with new chasis.

I too was hoping EPS in Viper for the wife. Instead now I wish they just detuned the Sidewinder turbo and remove the air exchanger like BRP did with 900T 130hp. Identical frame as Sidewinder now but lighter and less HP to replace the Viper? Or remove the turbo all together. Whichever is cheaper? Then add EPS the following year.

All they had to do was put PS on the Viper and they would have sold twice as many of them as Sidewinders. My opinion anyways.

Exactly....Yami needs to get back into the 2 stroke game. I love my 1049 but riding my wife's 6000 2 stroke on a few trips with my buddies that light weight rocket is very fun to ride.

I would be more interested in who is doing what for Yamaha.........
Nobody; crap (Just keeping with the spirit of disappointment, staying on topic, and trying to add a touch of dark humor!)

I agree with the same 998 engine without turbo but with the Sidewinders look & platform. I could be interested. Dont need the speed or maintenance.

the comments made about EPS was to try to determine if its new technology or the old technology used by Yamaha in the Ventures...but understand the rant...you're right to expect that discussion lol. JoeCat or Yamaha power steering? Why does it really matter who made it, programed it, engineered it.. Lets judge its performance next season after it hits the snow. THEN I suppose if its junk(or one single failure) we will have a thread talking about Cat DNA and its all cats fault! If its flawless(which is my guess) then it will be Yamaha who engineered it? O and Yamaha has had Yamaha decals and plenty of skin in the game with the procross chassis(for many years) and surely has engineers far superior to Cat engineers? NOT!!!! BUT YET HAVE NOT FIXED the couple issues that need fixing??? So what's my point? Go buy another brand if you don't like Cat DNA.. Or maybe how about this thread title? "Yamaha DNA strikes again" Of coarse you would never see this on here! Rant over Peace out.

Cat makes a very nice 600 and 800 and if you don't really like those choices there is always Poo and Doo Yamaha will never build another 2 stroke,,(witch is fine by me) so if ya don't like what they offer move on to what ever trips your trigger. The Viper is an excellent machine but will probably be discontinued after next year. Then everyone will bitch because they don't make it anymore. To much hp not enough hp really some of you guys are never happy. There is so many options out there if you don't like what one manufacturers is offering move on to something else why would you wait. Life is short and so is winter do what you have to do.Nice sled but some of us want a nice lower weight 2 stroke.
