Agree 100% but people keep buying them so as a manufacture they will keep selling them at a crazy price. I am not sure what the answer is to stop the price raping....well just went to polaris dealer in canada an to buy the assault it came in at 25k plus 1k freight an setup know add tax it is close to 30k for an snowmobile it the world gone crazy.
Wish I had the magical solution but I don't....the only thing I can come up with is to stop buying but we all love the sport so that is not an option to most

You bring up an excellent point. Gas here in Southern Ontario is currently $1.89/litre. That is $8.5 per gallon for my USA friends.Well one place where I ride is $7.29 for 90 non ethanol. Between filling our own vehicles and then sleds that will take a shot at sales. Wondering how many current people that snow checked have canceled them after fuel prices jumped in past week.
Keep in mind that is not premium fuel that our 2 strokes require. On my last trip to Algonquin Park two weeks ago we paid $1.79/litre for 93 octane. We are leaving Sunday for our last sled trip at Algonquin Park on Sunday and expect to have to pay $2.00+/litre for premium.
Glad its our last trip and hope they get this crap figured out sooooon

I've heard people say for decades they are going to leave the sport. Some do, some don't, but there are always more to replace those that exit.

Unfortunately the sport has been in a downward trend since ‘97. Most every year fewer new people are coming in to replace those that leave. Another aspect of sled sales I don’t see being talking about much is most existing owners have more than one new or a few year old sled.I've heard people say for decades they are going to leave the sport. Some do, some don't, but there are always more to replace those that exit.
YOLO!
All of my riding buddy’s have two to three sleds that only date back to ‘16. I don’t know if this is normal or the exception? With some many buyers having gotten burned by this years snowcheck. The majority seem to be ordering a new sled and holding on to their existing one. I don’t see this being sustainable for long term.

ELECTRIC SNOWMOBILE
Abstract
An electric snowmobile that prevents temperature rise of a control unit is provided. An electric snowmobile includes a body frame extending in a front-rear direction, a driver's seat supported by the body frame, an electric motor supported by the body frame, a ski supported by the body frame, a track mechanism including a track belt, supported by the body frame below the driver's seat, a battery that supplies electric power to the electric motor, and an inverter including an electronic component controlling a rotation of the electric motor and a housing for housing the electronic component. An opening is formed in the body frame so that a portion of the inverter is exposed from the opening to face the track belt.

you know that was not just done it take years to write a patten up then it goes to corp lawyers to read to check it to make sure some else has not filed then then file them. sorry to tell you there is no R&D being done by Yamaha snowmobile in canada or the US they Fired all the R&D people and and the building will be lock up at the end of month.

It’s encouraging to see these. They currently have an electric trials bike and there was a YouTube video about them working with another company on an electric YZ motorcross bike. They’ve been building electric bicycles since the late 80’s or early 90’s so it seems totally natural for them to be transitioning over to electric sleds.you know that was not just done it take years to write a patten up then it goes to corp lawyers to read to check it to make sure some else has not filed then then file them. sorry to tell you there is no R&D being done by Yamaha snowmobile in canada or the US they Fired all the R&D people and and the building will be lock up at the end of month.

Their flat out done with sleds. The patent is just covering their bases so they can share it if need be with Textron or whoever. Doesn't mean they are getting back into building their own machines.

I can see them being done with gas sleds in the performance arena but they are still building the VK and a couple Deltabox models in Japan. I can see them transitioning to Japan built electric sleds for the future.Their flat out done with sleds. Sure they do, the old 1980-1990 model two-stroke 540 fanner as I recall and an old Venture model from the mid 2000's. Nothing new, and nothing that even looks like a fun performance model, they have no R&D, nor do they have any engineering here in the states or Canada any longer. They appear to have no interest in developing snowmobiles any longer. All the new Yamaha built stuff has faded away other than the 998 engine that powers the Textron Arctic Cat chassis. If they came out with any new sleds of their own, it would shock the snowmobile community. They are now and have been, only a engine mfgr, since the tsunami. All Yamaha needed was a good chassis and suspension program, but they can't have that without R&D any longer. They have long ago pulled out of developing any new snowmobiles built by themselves. Why can't some people see that?
Yamaha built the best engines ever produced in two-stroke and four-stroke engines, and they were both geared output shaft driven four-cylinders. the 800 VMax4 and the Apex engines. They both were Swiss watch type engines. Dont get me wrong, all Yamaha stuff is built like that, but those engines have the most potential and make the most power per CC and also have the widest power band potential than any snowmobile engines made to date.
