It has been described to me....but have never seen it or experienced it. What improvements are to be expected?...let's start with a mild casting cleanup as a baseline, and overshoot from there...
Input for normally asperated and Turbo also welcome...

hmmm...87 peeks with no replies...either many are interested but have no information or it's a voodoo topic...anyone?
4 stroke porting has more to do with floor shape and the flow around the valve guide and seat. The flatter the entry the better, and some even use a smaller necked down, swirl polished valve stem at the head to promote better flow on the valve head.

At the end of the day its still a 1L, in the world of porting I dont see any improvement over 10hp being realistic JUST from porting. Now add cams, larger valves, high compression pistons, etc etc and you may eek out 15-25hp.
but....on boost? A respected tuner over here was talking 50+hp with ported head on Apex on the same amount of boost? Sounds to good to be true...

Why all that work and expense. Just turn up the boost. It all boils down to cylinder pressure thats what is important. How much pressure any given engine can handle is where it starts to be important. Some run rods and pistons some dont. Its a game of managing all that push without wrecking parts.
well, If you could get more HP at the same amount of boost, wouldn't that be good? the more Efficient (sp?) you can get it the better it is...?

My porting helped throttle response forsure. I found a decrease in boost with the same setup after the port which is correct as, boost is a measure of resistance, more flow = less resistance.
That would be correct I guess...And...if you turned the boost back up to where it was, then you'd make more hp at the same amount of boost?

Good inputs - Efficiency is the root of the question, particularly under boost.
While in the motor for rods, it seems worthwhile to clean up the castings/ports for better flow (stock valves) and more efficiency - so long as it is noticeable.

Sounds good on paper but I will turn up the boost and readjust my meth and make cheaper h.p. Cant see spending that kind of cash, when its easy to readjust
NFS2: well, what if youre running as much boost as your unit will handle even with meth? Couldn't you get it ported to make more hp without adding boost and still be safe? It's not expencive at all to have it ported...
Mob: That's just what I'm thinking..I have the motor apart anyway, so if I can make more hp with just some porting, I'm thinking why not, as long as they guarantee that I have my top end back in time to put it back together before snow flys...

Tis is a part of a discussion that we have been having on an other topic. I thought that it would have merit here also,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It's all relative to the set up package,ie turbo, header, intercooler, cams ,etc. When everything is set up properly,I don't know why you need that much boost. Our race set up makes 400hp with 20lbs boost but on a trail set up the limitation is the flow of the exhaust through the header and turbo. The trail set up will build back pressure in the header so if you turn up the boost, looking for more power, you can't get the exhaust out to let the charge in. This can be overcome with porting, turbo cams, timing, etc.(looking for more power per pound of boost). The fuel plays a big part of this because there is more potential power in pump gas then in race gas so if we are looking for more power per pound of boost,we will use pump gas and then ad the meth to control the detonation. I know that this is more then you were asking but I think that it all adds up together. Either way,The meth WILL eliminate all your detonation regardless of the fuel you use when tuned properly.

Where do you get a goodjob done on a 5 valve head cheap? As for a cheap job unless it is done using flow bench you may not be helping may hurt some air flow especially at low engine speeds. The art of flowing a 5 valver is not as simple as you guys are leading us to believe. As for maxing out your turbo upgrade to a larger and let it all begin again. With meth in as a help to reduce temps the sky is the limit or the weakest link

Absolutely welcome input Hurricane...much appreciated.
Many possible ingredients/recipes for HP...I like to try to understand each ingredients potential and relative effect as well as possible place in the big picture.
Being relatively new to boosted 4-stroke world, I have a lot of learning to do on power options, hoping to avoid the 'trail of pistons' from the 2-stroke curve...
Hoping to net out the effect of porting on boosted 4-stroke apps...
