So this prob has been beaten to death but can I just put a 8dn belt on my 2014 viper xtx with out any mods and what are the benefits?

Good question lots of opinions wondering myself to. Sounds like original is a piece of crap and gets dust all over clutches would like to switch mine too but not really expierienced enough to fool around with clutches and no one around here really does that so id like to know also saw video in the facts section may try that. Good job Cannondale27

I took 3 bolts out of back side of secondary and the 8dn fits perfect

You'll need to add shims, machine the secondary where the screw land plate mounts, or go with the OSP best deflection adjuster to ti

Clutches might vary but I just pulled 3 bolts out and the 8dn fits good. Haven't tested yet waiting for snow

I think the big difference in the 8DN is it's a deeper belt, it just has more meat to it. The only drawback is that most of us need to shim the clutches out almost to the limit of their adjustment to make it fit tight enough. You can just take the bolts out too, that's what I did to mine after 2 washers weren't enough. I wish we had an 8DN equivalent to the 8JP, then we would have more room for adjustment.

Even a equivalent does not make it equal since even a new 8jp with proper deflection is low in the secondary. You will not get the nice smooth launch a 8dn length belt provides. I have no doubt a belt such as Gates 8jp equivalent will work and be consistent. I tried it. But there is no getting away from the height and lower ratio on launch 8dn provides. Done trying 8jp or equivalents. Moving on. Will try some 8dn equivalents now. Plus they slip right off with OSP adjuster. Anyone want some 8jps and a nice Gates you can have them. Pm me.

I have had a brand new 8dn on now for a littler over 100 miles. My secondary needed zero adjustments when I switched. Put it on and belt deflection is right on, with more miles I'm sure I'll need to

Studroes like I said before you must have gotten a wide 8dn. They vary a lot. Others should not expect to get that lucky.

I use the 8dn. I had it setup from Ulmer racing. After getting the secondary machined I actually had to remove the washers on the back and screw my bolts all the way in. Now my belt doesn't make a noise and rides up in the secondary where it should. Deflection is right on and Maybe .5mm or so higher than the book says. Haven't rode it but by the feel on the stand seems to be smoother and stronger.

Cannondale, pm'ed you.

Went to Powersports1 on Saturday and while I was there buying my Viper presents, I asked someone for a caliper, he looked at me dumbfounded when I started measuring 8DN belts off of the rack. Showed him how much they differ.

Found 1 belt at 1.378" so I purchased that one, but these belts brand new can go down as far as 1.340" something and as high as 1.380" something! Yes, they differ that much!!!!
