I hope a few of you are part of the AC Turbo forum on Hardcore sledder, as I learned something yesterday. Since I have a Viper in the fleet and not a Sidewinder, I was not one to question it.

Are the plastics on the 9000 series different from the Sidewinder plastics to the point that they are not interchangeable?

I was told that other than color, there are differences in the shape of tabs and the amount of them to the point that they will not interchange with each other. I was under the assumption that they were off the same mold, and only differ in color and decals.

Is it possible that there is just a slight change in possibly model year, and the difference they are seeing is from 17-18 etc?

I am not sure but what I could tell looking at them at the shows, they are different in many ways. I don't think they are interchangeable.
 
If both sleds sat side by side you could visually see the body work is quite different. The parts are not interchangeable as the side panel has multiple tabs the Cat is not using. Pull up a pic of both and compare lots of small details between the two.
 
Hood and side panels are different from the cats and Yamaha's. You could swap hood and side panels altogether from one to the other tho.

I put s cat dash on my sidewinder don’t know about the rest of panels
 
I love the setup on my 9000 compared to viper!!
No srews to remove! And harness plug is on the clutch side easy access

Many differences from winder to 9000....Viper plastics are basically same as pre '17 cats....those were horrible, much like my '12 procross.

Winder and 9k both have the LED signature light, and LED headlight. Same chassie, and same gauge package and mounts. Same lower panels(lft&rt) and same lower front panel, same bumpers ect...Much is same.

Differences are actually alot in the plastics...Winders IMO have a much nicer look. They are also warmer plastics. Winder uses two wings on either side of the window, which works into the side flares of the SE window, all making for much warmer mid section compared to cats narrow windows(no side flares whatsoever) and NO side wings.

Because of this, the winder side panels are much trickier to close, since we have the tabs on top that need to snap in, Cats simply close panel and turn locks, done. So cats panels open/close much simpler. Same two tabs at bottom tho on each sled.

I have seen a cat add a SE window, as the SE window is easily the warmest window that also looks good. Most others that are warmer are quite tall and lose the nice look and flow of the lines of these sleds. Cat windows are narrow and all painted so you lose peripheral vision, and colder due to narrowness. Winder windows use tabs that snap into those side wings, the tabs come down along sides of headlight, cats have none of this. For cats to add the SE window, they need to add two black screws to those tabs, into the black panels which are not hidden on the cats like winders are. But it looked great and these tabs are needed IMO to lend strength to the ears of SE window.

You can plainly see how much more width the SE window has, and how side wings throw air around rider...The winder plastics are very nice looking when compared side by side to cat IMO.

The Winder looks so much better than the Cat. Yamaha does a great job with the details like colors, vents and graphics. The only reason these sleds have plastics that are easy to remove and work so well is because of Yamaha. Cat would just have added a few more rusty screws or clips at the end of wires.

NO- they don’t fit because they are green :)

The SRX this year has a low windshield more like the cat windshields. It doesn’t flare out at all on the sides, like even the low windshield on my 18 50th does.
 
Yep they are way different, Dan has pointed this out pretty well. My buddy has the 18 T cat, our sleds sit in the same shop year round. We do all of our maintenance together so I see it first hand. Cat panels are so easy to install, pretty much just slap lower tabs in and close...that's it. With the winder after you slap the lower tabs in you have 3 more points to get right, the top wing, the center consul and a third tab on the front half of the panel. I like the ease of the cat panel but I wouldn't change the styling that the winder offers.
 
The Yamaha hood is too thin on the sides where they fasten with the twist lock. Seen many that have broke . Hopefully they fixed that issue in 2019. Agree the Yamaha looks a bit better. But love the way the Cat panels install.
